There are many apps that allow you to text from the Nook Color. I use Heywire, and yes, they all require an internet connection (meaning wireless).

Thanks! I just found a fantastic solution: TextPlus (in the Market). TextPlus gives you a (phone) number, so you can SMS with the Nook without any problem! It works with any Android phone as well... Yay
