SMS Timestamp? Time is the received time and not the sent time.

This is my first android phone, so perhaps this is an android issue and not a Optimus S issue. On every other phone I've had (basic phones, windows phones, etc) the time shown on texts is the time that the other person sent it to me (important if I am without signal or the phone is off). However on the Optimus S it seems to timestamp the text at the time the phone receives the sms. So if I goto the movies and turn off the phone and during the movie 5 people text me, when I turn on the phone after the movie is over it will say all 5 people texted me at the same time (the time the phone was turned back on and downloaded the texts).

Anyone know of a way to change this?
