According to AIDA64 app I have the snapdragon 835 chip i thought Canada was getting the international exynos chip like I had with the S7 edge
Is this a mistake?

North America will get the Snap Dragon. Because there are CDMA carriers on both Mexico and Canada. The USA is not the only country that uses CDMA.

Were CDMA carriers, not are.

Telus and Bell starting to shutdown its CDMA networks on January 31st | MobileSyrup

If CDMA was still relevant outside the United States then the S7 and prior would be using the Snapdragon up here.
That's new. Maybe it'll speed up the retiring of CDMA here in the US.

It could be due to logistics reasons. It makes it easier on the supply chain. Why ship two versions (Exynos and Snap Dragon) to a region when one will work in all areas and networks within that region which Snap Dragon does.

Verizon is working on shutting down its CDMA. It's not cost effective to run it in conjunction with LTE. It'll take awhile given the size of its network though.

I don't know what Sprint plans are for its CDMA. It took HUGE beating after the Nextel and Wimax debacles and is now finally recovering.
