What do you guys think about the Snapdragon and the Humming bird?
Pros......Cons
Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Well, if you're talking about the ones made in 2010, then it was the hummingbird. But now everything's changed in the dualcore landscape and they're all about the same except Samsung still has the superior gpu.

I haven't seen any comparison's between the Exynos (Hummingbird Dual-Core) and anything else. As far as I know (and I don't know everything) nobody has seen this chip in the wild.

True, I should have mentioned that this is just speculation since the hummingbird swept the floor with its gpu, so I suspected that the exynos would have the most powerful gpu

YouTube - Samsung Exynos 4210

I'm having a really hard time trying to decide which device to be excited about...galaxySII or Evo3D :(

I'm going for the Evo 3D... Other than battery life in the OG Evo all I heard is good things, and the Epic all I heard is how long it took them to get 2.2... But that's just me and that's only one of the reasons!

personally, Ima HTC guy, I just like Sense UI. I have had a vanilla rom on my eris but like grabbin my fiancees phone cuz it was stock. Ive played with sammy's and moto's but still like sense better. This is all subjective, go to the store and play with each phone. Smack the rep for bugging you while you do it, cuz for the most part (not all, but most) they dont know what there doing, play with the layout and how smooth things run. Even check out other carriers too, most HTC, Motorola, Samsung and LG brands use the same or similar UI on there phones then come back and ask questions about what ya seen. We will all be happy to answer. Besides you have plenty of time to decide lol

Samsung TOTALLy Sh*&t the bed last year in comparison to HTC. What Samsung has forgotten is that the user experience is actually one of the most important pieces of the phone...and here HTC is INCREDIBLY focused where as Samsung is not. Sure Touchwiz will get better but its not even close to doing what HTC and HTCSense.com are doing. Not to mention, Samsung had a lot more problems than just the 2.2 update. Build quality isn't good.

this a processor discussion, not ui or other hardware.

I love the humming bird in my Epic, its other issues i have. That being said, i'm sure the Snapdragon will have more than enough horsepower to do what we need, and thats before OC'ing... Cant wait to overclock my 1.2ghz dual core XP

Also Snapdragons tend to have the best application compatibility.

I'm honestly surprised so many people disliked the epic...I've love mine to death. I mean the screen is gorgeous, the processor flies, my battery constantly impresses me, and it by far acts smoother than any other android phone I've touched. 2.2 did take forever, but all I needed that for was to transfer apps to my sd card. I think samsung was just overwhelmed with how many different versions of the phone they had to upgrade all around the world. They'd never had a single smartphone line become so widespread before.

I love the look of sense, it's beautiful and eye catching, but when I spend a lot of time with it, it starts to bother me for a few reasons. It feels kind of outdated...all the icons remind me of windows xp era icon art, and it bugs me just how much of the UI experience is overlayed with sense. That said, I'm totally willing to give it a shot come the evo 3D. I simply like change, so I don't mind going from samsung to htc just to experience it. It sure looks purty. I'm going to miss the black levels on super amoled though. Oh and how thin the new GSII is :/

Same I love my Epic too! I just sort of hate the timing of the Epic release because the evo just took all of the spotlight. Yeah but I'm probably going to go to htc...maybe. I will wait for sprint's version of the galaxy s2 to come out. I wouldn't mind switching to a different manufactuer either because I'm not too loyal when it comes to brands

i love my Epic's screen, and i get complimented on it all the time.

But the battery has not astounded me, nor has the processor. Also the HTC dev community cant be beat, and i cant wait to see all sorts of 3D awesomesause that gets put together for it!

Yeah, it's a possibility that I will go for the HTC Evo 3D because I have a feeling that the 3D will keep me interested in that phone for at least a year (gold premier customer here) and it will keep the 'cool' factor up.

As a user of a Samsung Vibrant who will be going over to Sprint when the Evo 3D is released, I can say that Samsung build quality is nowhere near as good as that of HTC (and lets not forget that whole update "fiasco"). Last week, a couple of my buddies got new phones (one got the Thunderbolt, the other the Inspire 4G), and I really like how solid the HTC phones feel.

However, I will miss using that Super AMOLED screen. My friend with the Inspire ran Nenamark at the same time I did, and hands down the SAMOLED had superior screen performance

Frow what I've heard the dual 1.2ghz proc in the Evo is supposed to be roughly the same as the 1ghz dual processor in the tegra 2,omap4. This is due to the fact that the qualcomm chip is based on an A8 ARM design whereas the tegra 2 and omap4 are based on the A9 design.

Supposedly the gpu in the evo 3d (adreno 220) will out perform everything else in current and soon-to-be-released phone SOCs.

This is according to anandtech which did some preliminary benchmarks of the SOC that will be in the evo 3d (although his benchmarks are with a reference qualcomm device that was clocked at 1.5ghz whereas shipping devices will be clocked at 1.2).

I'm really curious to see how this all turns out.

I'm not much of a gamer, my primary need for speed is in regards to web surfing where current SOC's still have a ways to go IMHO.

Yeah, I know which article you are talking about, I had posted a link and started a thread about it in here. I was kind of disappointed that they did use the A8 for the basis of this Snapdragon, but, it's not like this thing is a slouch. I mean the Evo 4g has the first generation Snapdragon, and with the Evo 3d we are getting the second generation x 2, so for us Evo 4G users, this, combined with the Adreno 220, there will be a significant speed boost! Also, benchmarks are great for bragging rights I suppose, but in the end, I don't think there are any games or anything else that will really push any of this new gen hardware to the limit quite yet. Also, Android can't handle dual core cpus yet to their fullest potential, so while certain chipsets, like the Exynos in the Galaxy S2 might have higher benchmarks, you'll really never feel it in real life usage.

Either way, I am very happy with the specs of the Evo 3d, and I know they will be a significant boost over the Evo 4G, a phone that I really like, I just want more speed, and that's exactly what I'll be getting with the Evo 3d! Finally I will be able to play all those games that run like crap on the Evo 4g, and hopefully I can use all those fancy live wallpapers I bought! LOL.

Yup, I agree on pretty much all points. I personally think HTC does a better job tweaking their software or drivers to the SOC their phones are running... they seem to have a smoother UI.

I am curious how the current crop of dual core phones perform once android has been tweaked to take advantage of the dual cores (more completely then it does today). Interesting stuff.

I know a lot of people have really focused on the 3D capabilities of the phone... personally I'm more interested in the performance increase, the higher res screen and hopefully, better battery life.

Take advantage of the dual core and allow the UI to be hardware accelerated as well! Not sure if HTC is already doing that to some degree, but I know support for it only became official with Honeycomb.

Ice Cream will be when phones get "official" multi core support.

All of the things I've seen and read still have the TI Omap 4 ahead by quite a large margin.

None of the dual core chips are slow, though, so it's all relative anyway.
