Snapshot doesn't work - just placeholders

I've been back on the native Pixel launcher for a few days now and "Snapshot" still doesn't work. I thought maybe it would be fixed as a byproduct of using the launcher.

I am referring to the "Snapshot" of your day. You can tap the icon in the upper-left corner of your Google Feed and I think it appears other places. For me, I just get placeholders. Pulsing placeholders. It's been like this for weeks.

Is it broken for you? Just me?

BTW... I have been unable to search the web about this either. It just thinks I am talking about screenshots.

It works for me. Shows the weather and suggestions for ordering from local restaurants.

Try clearing data/cache then force stop the Google app

I had cleared cache but not tried all that. So, I did. It wiped everything. I reboot for good measure. Went back to Spotlight. This time, it said it needed to download something additional to use it. It was a Google Assistant related thing but not specified. I agreed, it downloaded. I thought this was it! Nope, back to pulsing squares with no content. Then "something went wrong."

Do you know what it downloaded?

Hmm not sure what it downloaded but probably a update, can try Uninstall Google app update , same long press tap info then upper right corner tap and Uninstall update , see how it works before play store updates it or try the beta of Google app

Good ideas. Tried the uninstall. It still didn't work. Went ahead and updated it again and obviously, still no go. I might try the beta.

Fortunately, this isn't a crucial feature, just odd it stopped working at some point. I sent app feedback (almost can't say that with a straight face, like it matters).

Thanks for the suggestions. All good ones.

Yeah it is odd , sometimes going in and out of safe mode fixes things. Let me know !

I'll give that a shot. Can you tell me how to enter safe mode on this phone? Haven't done that in years and not on a Pixel.

Sure , long press the power button until.poer off shows up then long press power off on the screen until sage mode pops up and tap., to exit out just restart the phone , check it while in safe mode if it works , if not reboot .

Safe mode didn't help, either in it or after it. However, while in safe mode, tapping snapshot brought up a black screen with a spinner instead of the placeholders.

I did get to relive old text messages and notifications that flooded in after the reboot.

Now I know how to do it. I like how easy they've made it now.

Yeah pretty neat safe mode now :)
Try the other step with Google app in beta from play store opt in see if its working

Beta. reboot. Didn't change anything. I forgot to mention, it has two phases. First, the pulsing placeholders, about 30 seconds in, switches to a spinner at the top and placeholders vanish. I tried turning off WiFi and going on the mobile network. I do have a hardware firewall so why not? Didn't help either.

I'll leave it on the beta and live dangerously. Just have to remember I'm on it in case something new happens.

I'm open to any other ideas if they cross your mind. Again, minor feature but, you know, can be irritating.

Adding to this in case anyone has the same problem. Doing some troubleshooting with Google pretty much revealed it's not the phone. It's something to do with my Google account because my other devices exhibit the same problem. Google tech support couldn't figure it out. They said to leave feedback in the app (I did). Something is corrupt in my account.

Fortunately, as I said, it's not a feature I use much at all anyway. Maybe it will be fixed with the October update!

Thanks for updating !

I had to remove Snapshot settings on both phones. My Note 10+ & Pixel 4XL. Everything works. Thanks for the help.

THANK YOU!

This worked to a degree. Removed from my 4XL and 3. I now see the Snapshot screen. I added my calendar items only to realize I didn't want all my calendar entries in it. I unchecked and they didn't go away. Unchecked everything and started over. Worked. Tried adding reminders and it couldn't handle it. Got the "something went wrong." Started over. I now have weather, bills from Gmail, reminders from Gmail. It already had one event of mine that it says it's getting from Gmail.

It seems reminders breaks it for me. I'll try some of the other things.

Again, THANK YOU! This is the most progress I have made.

You are welcome. A little research always does good.

I would say a lot of skilled research always does good. You figured it out. Every time I searched "snapshot," Google interpreted it as a request related to screenshots. I started throwing in operators, quotes, tried to follow leads. I just gave up. So glad you figured it out!
