So does anyone notice better performance on their Evo after the latest update? I tried to play asphalt5 when i got my evo launch day and i returned/uninstalled it b/c it played like crap. downloaded the lite/free version after the update and seems to play pretty well. I'm not rooted, my phone is stock. I was just wondering if anyone can definatively say the phone performs better after the update. After an albeit limited try (asphalt5 lite) test, it seems to be better. What do you guys think.

Oh and I ran quadrant and my phone rated 2nd after only the nexus one w/2.2 for what that's worth.
neocore was 28.6 fps. i don't remember what it was before the update
linpack: mflops: 33.136; time: 5.68; norm res: 5.68; precision: some long number i don't feel like typing in..
so how are us evo owners doing now?

The prior custom rom I was running already had the FPS cap removed so I was used to it being zippy. no change for me.

There's definitely a difference. Ever since I went custom rom and installed a kernel with the fps uncapped I could see there's a huge difference. I'm also o/c'd so that may also play a role, but even at 998mhz and uncapped there's definitely a big difference.

What's the difference between the xda cap removal and htc's removal? I heard the kernal only doubles the screens refresh rate which made it smooth. HTC might have done something different then just double the refresh rate of the screen. I could be wrong somewheres but that what I got anytime I read a post about the xda kernal. Is there a true way to see what and if there is a difference between the 2.

I don't think he's trying to compare if there's a difference between the htc uncap and the custom kernel uncap. I think he's talking about stock to stock. Unless I'm misunderstanding him. I made a post in the hacks section about how htc uncapped it. No answer yet though. I'm curious to see how they did it. One thing that I did notice, the htc uncap kernel seems to have better fps deviation numbers which would indicate that it's not done by the double refresh rate trick.

yes, i'm not rooted so i'm really only interessted in stock vs. stock. but i do appreciate comments from those of you who have oc'd and can offer opinions. so thanks to all...

Looks like we have to call geek squad for this one lmao. I have to say that all of my recroded videos playback great. I have had no problems or skipping since the update. I used to be embarrassed to show off my videos because they always skiped while playing back. Now its %100 better, and i show off all my great looking videos to my friends and family.

My pre update video's still skip or lag.

I just took two video's of my office. Those don't skip or lag when played back.

All my 720p videos, old and new are now playing perfectly! I rooted my EVO the day before the update was announced but was happily surprised to see the rooted ROM available before the OTA hit. I flashed to the rooted version of the OTA ROM and was quite happy with the cap lift. Screens scroll beautifully now. Haven't seen any improvement is 3D games, but that's not a big deal to me. My biggest beef with the EVO was the laggy scrolling and the messed up 720p video playback, and both of these issue are resolved for me. I'm a happy camper at this point.

Huge difference with the update! I got to say my Evo is running very smooth now. great feel when scrolling threw my apps.

None of the fps uncapping kernels work by doubling the refresh.

Also, a higher stdev in fps2d is not better, it means that max is more unstable.

does the update fix the quirks with pandora? the big one being that it randomly stops playing after a few minutes

Everything I've read about the way the kernels uncap the fps was by doubling the refresh rate. How is it done then? Also what I meant about the fps deviation was the htc kernel was getting better (lower) deviation numbers compared to the custom kernels that uncap the fps.

Yes same here, everything I read said that the kernal doubled the refresh rate of the screen, and how could the Max FPS be more unstable then the capped 30fps? I'm a bit confussed. As long as the phone itself is running smooth and apps and games are running and opening faster and/or better, how could that be more unstable? The cap removal has done very well with everything, and as i and others have noted, the videos that have had skipping problems playback with no problems now.
