So I got into an argument at work for using my phone...

can't be on own phone either :) I get to be on the phone for 2 fifeteen minute breaks and a half hour lunch during a 10 hr work day. sucks but them's the rules......of course I use their wifi lol, but if I play pandora on my phone I get reprimanded because they think I am texting.

I understand your dilemma, I was just trying to assist with the translation.

This will kind rub against the whole "google solution", and I don't know how much disposable income you have, but you might consider using an outsourced solution like hosted MS Exchange. Usually, a mailbox costs $10/month, and if you already have your own domain, you might as well use it. Then, link your device using active-sync. You won't have to manually sync anything, and you can sync your contacts as well - essentially never need to back-up again.

That is an extreme option though. I'm pretty sure that gmail can "accept" calendar activities/invites from others and put it on your google calendar. If it can't though, Exchange is a good idea. I have it for my tiny business and won't drop Exchange even after I go "out of business"...just some ideas out of left field.

To address your original question, have you looked at Google Calendar Sync? It runs on a client PC running outlook (it is a plugin for the outlook client), and it will mirror calendar entries with your google calendar (either one way or bi directional).

I've been using it, and it works great for me. The main thing to keep in mind with it, though, is that it can only sync calendars while the client PC is on (and possibly only while running outlook? not sure about that, as I *always* have outlook running on the pc in question).

Hope this helps!

Tony, you mentioned syncing outlook to your device. You can set up Exchange on your phone and it will sync you Outlook contacts etc. I used to do this and sync all my outlook email, contacts and calendar events to my personal phone.

It worked great for a year but recently they implemented security policies and now outlook will only sync with registered company devices. As long as your company doesnt have this it should work.

your phone can do the two major things you need through your computer already.

Google contacts and gmail.

Go to your gmail account and port your contacts to there. I only use this as my primary phone contact because its accessible from a pc or phone. your phone will automatically sync your contacts from there.

If you are on your gmail page, you'll see the bar at the top of the screen says calendar. If you set up your phone to sync your calendar, it will sync immediately from the pc page as well.

as for your outlook syncing, not sure what exactly you need, but if you can access email on outlook on your pc, you setup the email to go to your phone. getting it to work can be tricky sometimes, ask an IT guy or google the out of it

if you want to stay off the work internet completely, look into getting a mhl adaptor
