So I rebooted my phone recently, and most of my app permissions were reset. How do I prevent this?

A

AC Question

This is a standard restart. Held the power button, and pressed restart. This has happened twice so far. Some apps will request the individual permission as I perform specific functions. Other apps will simply provide an error message, in which case going into the app manager, selecting the app and granting permissions will resolve it. The first time this happened, I went down the entire list granting permissions. Not something I'd like to do on a regular basis.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which version of Android? Is it rooted?

Did you just update to Marshmallow? If so, each app is probably prompting you to grant individual permissions, because Marshmallow introduced more granularity with permissions. With Lollipop, you basically had to grant all permissions that an app was asking for at the time you installed it. Now, when you use an app, it will ask for certain permissions when they become necessary.

If you do another reboot, do you find that you have to grant the same permissions again that you already did?

I've been on Marshmallow for about 2 months. Apps do prompt for individual permissions, but that isn't the issue. I've gone through each app in the App manager and granted all available permissions. A few days later, I restarted my phone, and the majority of those permissions were reset. I realized this when many of my apps began requesting permissions again. Some apps do not make that prompt, and simply give me an error message (that doesn't specify that it is a permission issue.) Going back to the App manager and granting permissions resolves this, but it is time consuming to individually select each app one by one and slide multiple permission sliders over.

You can count me in. I'm having the exact same issue. I allow permissions and then a few days later it will prompt me to do it again. It's an unending cycle. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I have an lg v10 and I'm going through the same thing. I also get a notice that says "setup wizard has stopped" when I turn my phone on. I don't know if the two are connected or not. It's frustrating having to re tick permissions all the time.

If you have a sprint phone, try uninstalling:
--My Sprint
--Carrier Call Utility
Probably only one of these is the problem, but I don't want to reinstall one to find out which is the problem.
