Well, ever since both the kernel threads were closed it's been pretty quiet... So is it safe to say this board is dead..? D=

No way is this board dead man! I'm working on a kernel myself, and so is donovan, and joban may release his source code eventually, so just wait.

This board is definitely not dead. We just have a large hurdle to overcome. In the mean time, if anyone hasn't upgraded to stock gingerbread you can have fun roming with whatever is out there for old baseband with joban's .32 version kernel. I really wish I would have found this forum before I upgraded. In the mean time, I'm going to get some linux installed and start learning what I can about compiling kernels. If anyone else is interested, I think this link is a good starting point although it may be a bit dated.

Anybody got a spare Phoenix they don't mind possibly breaking? If so, PM me and I'll start porting iScream Kernel (Optimus S) patches.

I think you will find that a lot of people here are willing to try any ROM/Kernel that comes there way. If you know kernel development we could sure use your knowledge the rest of us are just flying blind. I'm sure we will get there on our own but I for one will never turn down help.

I'm the developer of iScream Kernel (formerly GingerKernel) for the Optimus S. I'll start taking a look at the Phoenix and/or Thrive sources tonight.

Oh, and I abide by the GPL license so all kernel source code will be publicly available.

Sounds great Drew :) No reason these users shouldn't have a quality custom kernel available to them.

I can offically say that on behalf of all those here trying to get this going, if you can help us you will be our hero :D

Let me know if there is anything that we can do to help

Thats sounds great! We all waitin' for working .35 kernel to taste the power of Ice Cream;) BTW would you use LG sources or CyanogenMod?

Probably LG sources as a base. I think the CM kernel source is pretty bloated.

Also, I will be porting most (if not all) of the iScream Kernel patchset which is based on stock LG sources so I want the base to be as close to stock as possible.

Ultimately what would be ideal is to get a Phoenix in my hands. If anyone has one they're not using that I could borrow for a while that would be awesome.

Note: I'm not asking for a device to be donated, but that's always welcome as well.

I have a phoenix that I'm willing to break if it means getting a good kernel, can't really send it to you though.

obviously im no expert here but would using one of the P500 kernels that have been tweaked (such as Franco's) work better or will it cause us more issues because of propritary code? I know we could always apply tweaks as needed in later renditions just wondered if it would be a quicker path to use existing source.

So I know that some of you want to blame me for Joban's departure. If so, so be it.

Bottom line I dont like hypocrites and I called him out on it.

That said, from what I can tell drew sounds like the kind of dev we need and want and I heartily and thankfully welcome him into our little world.

Heres the goal. He needs a Phoenix. A Phoenix on EBay used cost about 80 bucks. Everyone chip in and donate him whatever you can ($1, $5, $10, $20) to get him one, he's got the donate button on his header.

I will be sending him my token shortly and encourage you to do the same.

I like the idea! I will have to see what my bank account looks like (but I will definately help out)

Can we move this to a new thread so that it gets more exposure.

Nope. I like to start with as clean a tree as possible, then add in my patches. I have a very specific patchset for my LG kernels.
