So many rooting instructions...where to start!

I don't know where to start!!! There are so many links with different techniques in rooting, im getting lost as what to do...

I followed this link:

and it has several different steps to do....

but then there is THIS link:

And then there is another with a "NAND" backup...

can somebody just clarify where i can START...i followed the first step in rooting but didnt continue with "Flashing recovery for custom ROMs". What do i do next???

I don't mean to be a noob but i rooted my PRE when it came out and that was very very simple (because there was only ONE GUIDE to follow) With the EVO, it seems there are several different approaches and i don't want to mix up the steps.

there's 2 parts to rooting. Definitely follow the guide of the person who came up with these methods, toast:

How do i put my phone into recovery? Im only use to pressing the power and vol down button...can somebody please tell me how to boot into recovery

Nevermind that was a stupid question . I got it working using the MAC tutorial.
