Soft bricked my skyrocket help

I flashed ice cream sandwich leak after that I tried to overclock not knowing that was not possible with ice cream. sandwich. After flashing overclock kernel my phone will only boot with samsung icon and not as far as it will go. I can go into odin but not recovery mode how can I fix this. I tried using the Tar to go bsck to stock rom But for some reason it will not work every time I download it it says that it is redundant
And will not finish downloading. If anyone can help me figure it out I would really appreciate it thank you

So you can't download the stock .tar file? I can upload it to dev-host or something, I'll update this post with a link when its done.

1)Pull battery and then put back in.
2)Hold volume+/volume- button and power button all at the same time.
3)When Samsung logo appears let go of power button, but keep holding volume buttons until clockwork mod recovery screen appears.
3)Restore with Clockwork Mod Recovery.

Friends..

I know this has nothing to do with the soft bricked phone but as a potential newbie what are the advantages of rooting and doing all these things I see you developer types do to an Android and does it even make sense for someone who's never done it before to try? I presume it's best not to screw with the OS until you decide to keep a phone too, correct?
