[SOLVED] Why can't I reply to or forward email messages?

When I open an email on my Samsung phone and choose to reply or forward a box appears with a message:
Loading messages...
it never goes anywhere. Once in a while I can send a reply or forward but not often. I am using the email app that came with the phone. I have removed security software that was installed thinking it might be the problem but it wasn't. I have restarted the phone in Safe Mode and the problem still exists. I removed and recreated the account but none of these things have helped. Your suggestions are welcomed!

I have a Galaxy Core Prime running Android version 5.1.1
