Some issues followed by a complete Blackout!

Ok, So I’ve had the phone since Sunday. Didn’t have any problems with it, except.. I’d notice sometimes while it was charging at night, It would reboot on its own.

Today, however… it was plagued with issues:

The first thing that happened, which was hair pullingly frustrating.. The phone got stuck on the “Sprint ID” screen which was white and only gave me two options, Download a Sprint ID pack or Emergency Call. If I tried to press any of the buttons, nothing would happen except if I pressed back half a dozen times, it would go back to the Homescreen for a split second and switch back to the Sprint ID screen. So to eliminate this strong armed authoritarian demand, I attempted an ID download to no avail, (some network error, my Data works fine, I noticed this since I first got the phone but not a prob since I didn’t care about the ID packs.) Finally, I got it to attempt a download (which failed) after an hour battling with the white screen. And everything was back to normal.

Next, the unmounting of the SD card started happening (the issue that others are having on here as well). The option for Mounting the SD card was greyed out. With several reboots and battery pulls and no solution, I gave up, and after about 30 mins, the SD card came back on. Back to normal..strange.

Then finally, I caught the phone shutting down and rebooting again but this time …complete black out, I attempted to charge the phone with both the 120V plug and USB to computer with no luck. My battery was low but it’s been on the charger now for two hours and no battery charging screen nor is it able to reboot. The phone is blacked out.

It’s going back to RadioShack, hopefully for a new one with no issues (I really like the Optimus).

The first thing I’d want to do with the new one is remove the “Sprint ID” pack. After being stuck on that white screen for an hour, I’m convinced it is buggy and I’d suggest you guys do the same :)

No clue on the total blackout, IDK if it’s the phone charger plug issue, a battery issue, or a screen issue. I’ll keep you guys updated when I find out. It’s been gone now for a couple hours :(

Sorry for my long post, I was just trying to be as detailed as possible, so if you guys run into the same issues, you might know what lies ahead (although none of the issues may be connected).

Wow. Maybe its a lemon? Never heard of all that happening... ::fingers crossed::

The phone is not bad. I had the very same problem when I got mine. I spoke to 2 sprint reps and they both told me to take the phone back. I called a again and spoke to another rep and she said its their servers. She updated something on her end and all was good, so call again and talk to a manager because some of them dont know what they are doing. BTW the only way to get pass that white screen is to download an id pack

Same Issues

These same issues have been plaguing my new Optimus. I just switched from the Palm Pre, which also quickly degraded in to a buggy piece of junk, so I'm extremely wary of the SD card failure and random restarts/screen black outs. I'm not sure that switching phones will help the problem as it seems to be an issue in the optimus's hardware or software, but at the same time it's an amazing phone in all other respects, dropping it would be tragic ;[

If anyone finds a good solution, please post!

Has anyone tried replacing the junk stock sdcard to see if that helped with the issues?
Thats the only problem ive had with this phone is the sdcard is junk and ive seen junk sdcards casue more problems then they ever should.

the worse part was the enforcement of sprint id it is such a pain to activate they even tell you data takes up to an hour yet they make you do that stupid crap before you can even use your phone.

It should just be a nag screen. Maybe come up every time you press home saying hey you need to do this, but i'll get out of your way for now if our data isn't working yet

This might not help but I wanted to play with the phone before I got it my boy showed it to me at radio shack and theres a trick I did its supposed to work on the g1 and he wasn't supposed to activate them for one more week and what you do is tap the left corner then the right corner then bottom right then bottom left then tap the middle of the screen you can get to the 911 dialer so you dont touch any buttons and I jumps to the home screen then I rooted the phone and used ksmithny's root directions then later that week got the phone I rooted lol but it worked for me just google how to bypass activation screen on droids and there's a list and you couldg add this to that list haha

You can bypass the activation screen from the English selection screen press the following keys in order: Volume Up Press Volume Down Press Back Key Press Search Key. Then press home & device will then display main screen.

Almost asked why you know that but... Doesn't matter lol. Thanks for posting it!

So if I do this, does this mean I could get to the home screen and then root/recovery/ThundeROM the phone and verify everything is working before I activate the phone on Sprint and change my phone number from my Moment to this phone?

Yeah, if that works then absolutely. No part of rooting, recovery, or romming requires a data connection so assuming that works you're all set. Heck, you could even test some functionality of the phone over a wifi connection prior to activating it too. The phone and text wouldn't work but anything that only relies on a data connection and not network should work fine.
