Some questions about my note 3 and android OS in general.

I purchased a Verizon android phone from the store about 6 months ago, and quickly decided I wanted to root it. After trying many methods like ODIN and the one click things, which didn't work, I decided that I should stop and try again when the developers have fixed whatever issue I was having with the root.

Knowing that I was not supposed to do any OTA'S, I stayed away from them. However, the messages quickly got annoying and at one point I accidentally accepted the update. My question is this: is it possible to restore my phone to the state it was at the time of purchase so I can try rooting again, or is it still possible to root even after the OTA. My model number is sm-n900v and it is running android 4.4.2, if that helps. I have access to a PC and am willing to loose all of my phone's data during format if it should come to that.

I understand that OTA'S remove the root partition, or something like that, so if I could just bring the phone back to the state in which I bought it, it should be fine right?

No, you can't go back to 4.3. But the easiest way to root is Towelroot. Google it. Just download the APK, install on device, and run. That's it.

I don't think this works on my phone, even though it is before Jun 3rd. When I open the link for the apk, it opens the apk in a text file rather than downloading it with firefox. Using normal browser trips some kind of security and not allowing me to download it. I'll try chrome and get back to you.

Same issue with chrome. Im afraid i am at a loss here, and i bet you that there is an easy solution for it and im just being a noob again. Please help me out here :)

If you're still having a problem, use a computer (there's no right mouse button on a phone), go to download towelroot by geohot right click on the lambda graphic and Save As. It'll save as tr.apk.

For some reason, your browser is set to treat an apk file as a readable file, not an app, and the link is directly to the tr.apk file. Right-clicking and Save As bypasses that, and allows you to save the page contents instead of displaying them. (That works on any web page.)
