Hi

I have a really unique problem.
I recently bought a Sony Xperia Z3 Dual (Dial sim) and it loses wifi (which is what I think is happening, even though wifi symbol is still there) especially when in Voip calls (Viber, Skype ect...) after 1-2 minutes.
The funny thing is my old phone (Sony Xperia Z1) and 2 laptops keeps connected to the wifi and in the case of Z1 handles voip calls without any issue.
I first thought it must be a issue with the new phone, but just recently learned that it doesn't doesn't drop voip calls at my work.
So it seems to be it is only happening at home wifi and only to this new phone.

I have a Gateway modem (Motorola SBG901) and tried changing channels (from 11 to 6) but it didn't help.
Turned the modem on/off, without any luck.
Did a factory reset on the phone, still no luck.

So I was wondering whether anyone have any suggestions on why only this phone is dropping Voip calls only in my home Wifi connection.
It drops the voip calls while still indicating that the wifi is connected.

Thank you in advance

Hi Thank you very much for the reply.
But it didn't work.
Like I said I noticed, it only happens with home WIFI. :(

What did you try--just disabling the router security? How about the rest of the suggestions in the guide?

Hello,

Ok I figured out the root cause of the problem.
Even though I said I checked disabling the router security, I figured out I didn't do it properly last time.

Anyhow after desabling router security properly this tim, the connection could be kept without dropping. (Especially in Voip calls). I also checked with other wifi connections (At my work and at a Target) where there was no security, and the connection never dropped.

So after searching online I saw some people saying to change the router security settings. So that's what I did next.
Router was originally in WPA-PSK , TKIP
In fact, I changed it to different settings after seeing online it helped some people who were going through the same issue in their Sony Xperia devices.
WPA2-PSK , TKIP
WPA2-PSK , TKIP +AES
WPA2-PSK , AES

After changing to different settings as above, it may hold a voip call for over 10 minutes for the first call. The second call it will drop again in less than 3 minutes.

I know for sure this is something to do woth Router security. But I don't know how to fix it.
Is there something wrong with the phone. I have already reset it to no avail.

Any help will be really appreciated.
