Sony Xperia Z3 My ONLY criticism of this device...

Ok, first off, I absolutely love the idea of this device. I ordered one on ebay last week and can't wait to get it early next week. That said, the one thing that I have a hard time with is this: the Back/Home/Options buttons waste incredibly valuable screen real estate. There is so much room below the display to place these like they are done on the Galaxy S series. Why waste space on what would otherwise be a perfect display size with these buttons? The effective display size has to be more like ~4.9 inches, since the translucent black bar with these buttons really doesn't count as phone display. Does this annoy anyone else?

If apps are designed to use the buttons correctly they switch to full screen mode and hide the buttons when they aren't needed or replace them with tiny translucent dots till you tap on them to activate them.

I much prefer the system to Samsung's capacitive buttons (don't even get me started on them being the wrong way round) I was always accidentally tapping the Samsung buttons when trying to pick up or hold the phone.

Ehh. I used to be a galaxy only user. Switched to the Moto X and Nexus 5, and didn't really find it to bother me at all. It took about a day to get used to is all. By the way, that black bar at the bottom for the home and menu buttons, is smaller than my nexus 5 ill tell you that..

Re: My ONLY criticism of this device...

Coming from a Galaxy S5 with a home button, I think I prefer the touch buttons...and when u watch videos or use the camera, they hide so u don't see them

Sent from my Sony Xperia Z3!

I appreciate the replies. I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly. It only bothered me because I was deciding between the z3, iphone 6+ and note 4.

Re: My ONLY criticism of this device...

I think the space below the display houses the speaker's hardware. If they moved the buttons down, like Galaxy phones, they would have to point the speaker backwards or down, like Galaxy phones. I don't think Sony wanted to lose the front facing speakers.

I had two android devices so far, one with hardware buttons (HTC desire) and one with on screen buttons (nexus 4).

I personally much prefer the on screen buttons and wouldn't get a phone that doesn't have them. Here are my reasons

* can reduce bezel size
* looks more elegant to me
* doesn't deteriorate over time (much HTC is having troubles registering some of my key presses)
* future proof. Whatever Google decides to do with Android, software buttons will adapt
* can disappear when not needed

Now it's true that the bezels on this phone are large, but having front facing speakers is really nice

Too much bezel and Sony has put so many intrusive apps that if it comes to the US carriers it must be a bloatware device, full of unnecessary apps and reminders.

The Z3? Too much bezel? If you actually see it in person, no way!

Bloatware device? It comes with a lot less apps and useless settings than the LG and samsung smartphones. Can't even compare them. And as far as I am concerned, T-Mobile doesn't load their phones with their apps. This isn't verizon. The only thing they may put is the T-Mobile boot up animation.

Re: My ONLY criticism of this device...

I don't think there's too much bezel. Front facing speakers and the camera have got to go somewhere. But hey, it's all personal taste which is the beauty of Android; you have a choice. With ios you get what you're given.
