The people in the forum it belongs in (Samsung Galaxy 2 Tab) are quiet, like little mice..

My fiance bought me a Samsung Galaxy 2 Tab 10.1 for my birthday.. Hooray, new toy.. Little did she know that I was VERY much on the fence as to actually wanting a tablet of any kind. After playing with it for a few days, I must say it's a neat little toy, though I'm not sure how much real-world use it'll get after the novelty wears off.. The "split" Swype keyboard is awesome and something I never thought I'd used until I actually tried it. Anyway...

So this is what I'm wondering.. If you have a tablet:

What do you find yourself using it for instead of your phone; OTHER than using it like an e-reader. So far, a few games are so much better on it than on my phone, and Dolphin Tab (beta) is a nice browser.
What apps do you highly suggest I get for it, that are either tablet specific or tablet-optimized? So far I have News360 (awesome newsreader app), Dolphin Tab, Evernote, and a few others
What other uses would you have for it, other than using it like an oversized Android phone (I have the wifi-only but can tether to my phone if necessary)?

OK, so to the mods, if this is the wrong room to talk about this, feel free to delete this post, but I know this is a fairly active and usually pretty intelligent room, and they actually speak here.

I don't see what's wrong with posting this here..

I don't currently have a tab, but I have been wanting to get one lately. The biggest reason I want one is to is to browse the Web, and use it for notes and for whatever else is easier to do on a tablet rather than a phone. Probably some games and that sort. But the biggest reason would probably be because of my storm chasing hobby, I don't have the money to install a laptop mount in my car and my phone is a little small for good radar(though it's usable) so I would use the tablet tethered to my phone and use the phone for calling reports into the National Weather Service.

I've been looking at the nexus 7 because it's cheap, but I want expandable storage and prefer a 10 inch screen. Also you could use your phone to tether your tablet when you're not near wifi.

I have a Motorola Xoom, and a Nexus 7. Generally I use my tablets as eReaders, and Netflix as well as most of my gaming. My tablets have pretty much replaced my desktop for most things. i actually sold my laptop within 4-5 hours of purchasing my Xoom. My 15 year old son is disabled and has about 7 specialists that he see's several times a year, I store all of his x-rays, ct scans, copies of his prescriptions, and his medical records on the tablets so I can refer to them as needed while we are at the Dr.'s office.

I think as you use your tablet you will find more and more uses for it. I will admit that I use the Xoom more than the N7 though.

I take my Nexus 7 to work and take meeting notes using evernote and reference my calendar and perform web searches for products I use in my designs.

I use a small keyboard case from poetic...not the best typing experience but I am getting used to it.

I too have the Xoom.

I use mine for work. Remote desktop, monitoring systems, active directory changes, wifi analysis. Also games. I rarely touch my laptop or desktop anymore.

Browsing and testing my works website that i just started updating for mobile compatibility and in general looks.

I also use it for Netflix and DroidTV(pvr for Android) i think it cost around 10 for the months. As long add it records the shows you want, not technically in HD yet but will be. Awesome service, fully recommend it.

Um....what else.. Facebook of course but I try tons of apps.

Download Amazon app store and check for their free app daily. Lots of games and a few kids things here and there. I got documents to go for office documents off of it for free! I have over 250 apps now, not all installed of course.

I use my tablet a lot! And i have my trusty RAZR MAXX too!

Experiment and enjoy!

What a great compliment to this forum. And props for being so polite dood.
I'm looking at the N7. I have found my Kindle Fire to be useful BUT>>>
Not responsive enough to warrant using it for things like surfing, Facebooking, sitting in recliner watching tv and looking at TV guide for what's on locally, reading local paper, showing pix in larger form than phone.,...etc. General life stuff. I watch Netflix on it , but I also watch Netflix on my phone.
That said, it's an amazing ebook reader. Mine hangs when doing much surfing. And the stupid shelf interface sux. I've used Go Launcher to help with that. But, I would not buy one just for an ereader. Too many other cheaper options now.
I look forward to an N7.

I was the same way you were prior to getting the Xoom 18 months ago (or whatever timeframe). I wanted to know what exactly one used it for other than surfing the web and games.

Well, I got it, and have fallen in love with it. The main thing is that it is bigger than the phone screen, so doing everything on it will be easier due to the big screen (except making phone calls since it is not a phone...lol). I use mine to surf using Chrome, I use Evernote (with Skitch) to take notes and picture notes of my progress on things, I use News360, LogMeIn to connect to my work computer and do things from home (I wish LogMeIn would be free on Android like it is on Ipad, but that is another issue). Read books. QuickOffice App to create / read / edit word/excel/pdf files.

I do not play games, so I do not use the tablet or phone for games, but once you have it, you will find many other things to use it for.
