Speaker help needed

No matter what phone speaker settings I use, the sound is BAD for phone calls. I can hear & understand what is being said, but the quality is so bad it actually hurts my ears! I end up cupping my hand around the back of the X to soften the harshness of the sound.

During calls, I've gone into settings & tried the different equalizer settings for the phone speaker. There doesn't seem to be any difference, no matter which one I select. Even sounds the same when there is no equalizer involved.

The quality went down after the Froyo update and is worse now with stock GB. Anyone know the secret or am I facing a speaker issue? My X is nearly a year old, but doing well otherwise.

I think you may have a speaker issue. I had no issues after Froyo, nor during my short stint with GB.

I agree it may be a hardware issue but have you gave equalizer a try from https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer&feature=search_result because it improved the sound audio on my device..
