speakers not muted when headphones plugged in

I want the speakers to be muted when I plug my headphones in. I thought after marshmallow Samsung changed it to where the speakers muted, guess not cause notifications are going through the headphones and speaker.

Just to be sure--has the headphone plug been pushed in all the way? If it's not quite in, sound could play through both the headphones and the speaker.
