When the Pixel 3 was released, there were many complaints by people who felt they were being screwed by Google's trade-in process, with final value less than they were "promised" when they initiated the option.

I haven't seen much of anything regarding that this time around.

Who in the right mind would trade in a phone for 200 bucks that was 800 plus tax just a year ago

I sold my 3XL 128 on Swappa for $430, just a few hours after the listing went live.

Have had very good results with Swappa over the last few years with much lower fees than eBay, where I used to sell my old tech.

I can't imagine anyone is actually trading in a working device. I have a mint pixel 3 xl with 128GB storage. $280. The funny thing is, I had to get a warranty replacement and they put a $1,000 hold on my credit card. So, what is it worth? $280 or $1,000?

The trade in processes are generally done by third party companies. It's not Google or Samsung or Apple collecting your trade in phone and then selling them. They just contract with third party and unfortunately the trade in companies are mostly crap. Samsung trade ins were filled with horror stories for many years and this year it's improved a lot. Most likely Samsung telling the trade in company to fix their **** (I'm guessing). Unless you are getting crazy trade in value like Samsung gives for their launch offer you are always better selling it yourself.

But overall yeah this year companies seem to have improved at least the trade in process overall. And I have seen fewer complaints about getting screwed on trade in.
