Speed detection

Hi,

I've recently checked the smart volume control app and I see that they have a speed volume mode that detects your speed and adjust the volume accordingly. I was wondering how does that work? How does it detects your speed?

I'm not familiar with the app but it seems logical that it would use your phone's GPS.
