Split screen mode, very disappointing.

Anyone actually use the split screen option on their note?

The other day my boss sent me an email with hours that are available to pick up for OT. I wanted to look at the little graph he sent while typing out a response. Thats when I learned the apps only work once in split screen mode. meaning I can either have emails open on top or bottom and not both. I had to do a screen shot of the email then open up gallery up top and email on the bottom.

Today I came across a similar issue, except the app I needed wasn't available on split screen. That app was google drive. WHAT!? I closed out of all apps and long pressed menu to see if maybe I had to open it through there. NOPE. none of the google office apps are listed... One note is the only MS app i see listed. what if I needed to write some notes from a power point or make an excel graph based on a word document?
I dont even see why the ones that are listed will ever be needed in split view.. why would I need to split the apps store, amazon, Instagram, or pinterest?

Pretty sure im not the only one that find this annoying.

Not all apps are optimized for multiview. My Files is and provides access to Google Drive. Some apps let you have multiples instances of them open at the same time, some don't. Internet is one that does. E-Mail doesn't. I can't have two instances of Outlook running on my PC either.

If you look in Recent Apps those that are multiview have an indicator in the header. Tap the indicator and the app opens in multiview. Drag the header and the app appears as a pop-up. Since Android doesn't even support multiview natively whose implementation is less annoying?

I understand some apps dont but you would think atleast the ones that came installed do.
Hmm didnt know my files had access to drive. But will it open up a sheets file in split view? I'll have to check that.

It's a good feature but it drives me nuts that I can't have a calander meeting and my phone open at the same time. I do a lot of webex meetings and need to be able to read the call in information and dial it in when prompted.

The installed Google apps don't because Alphabet/Google don't want them to. Neither are any email apps I have tried other than Samsung Mail. This isn't a Samsung or Note 5 issue it is the failure (for whatever reason) devs don't include the multitasking functions into their apps.

Blue Mail works in split screen with Business Calendar Pro.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Gmail, hangouts, play store, chrome, maps, and YouTube all work in multi window, so obviously some of the Google apps were coded for the feature.

I'm not sure why Samsung doesn't make the framework for multi window to include all apps. Developers for custom ROMs can do it, and if you have root there is an app to allow all apps, therefore Samsung should be able to include it as well.
This is probably what I miss most about having root.

I use excel and chrome to pay my bills. Google sheets doesn't work in multi view, so I installed office suite and used an app to make office suite compatible with multi window.

But will it open up a sheets file in split view?

If you select a spreadsheet off Google Drive from My Files it will open in Hancom which is multiview.

Actually, there are two ways of minimizing the Phone app so you can do other things in and out of multivew. The Phone app isn't multiview but it supports pop-up view.

While the Phone app is active just open another app over it either from Recent Apps or hit the Home button and open any app you're looking for. The Phone app then gets minimized to the header. If you tap the header the Phone app opens again in full screen mode. That may not be ideal if you need to get info from another app to input it in to the Phone app. Or to use the keypad to enter numbers displayed in another app.

If it's already active you can make it a pop-up by dragging your finger down from the corner to minimize it. If the Phone app is in your Recent Apps you can open it as a pop-up by dragging it by its header on to the screen.

Once minimized, if you hit Home or open an app from Recent Apps it turns the Phone app in to a floating booble head (it's on top of the clock in the pic). If you open the app from a bobble head it retains its minimized view.

Sometimes the problem isn't that the Note can't do something it's Samsung's lack of documentation that leaves us to figure it out on our own. The Note 5 is my seventh Note between phones and tablets so I've kind of learned Samsung's abstract development rhythm. For example, if you're using the stock browser you can open a new browser window by long pressing the New Tab icon.

I don't remember the name of the app but there one that will make non-mulitiview apps work with split screen. At least it worked with my note 3. Haven't tried on the 5 yet.

Love the note series. Never had use for split screen. Too cumbersome to set up for too little advantage.

I love multitasking.

MW-pen app enabler. It doesn't work on all apps and the apps can't be updated unless you uninstall/re-install them.

Thx. I am aware of the minimizing but you're correct that it's being able enter data from another app that is lacking and needed.

MW Pen Enabler app worked great for me on the note 4 but some of the apps that worked in the Note 4 do not work on the Note 5. For example Groupme will not work now.

I use webex too for meetings and what I do is create a memo and pin it to the home screen, then when I need to meeting ID I just pop it open. 2104.jpg
