Hey guys, is anyone else having issues with Spotify crashing when the screen times out? (I'm on Note 20 Ultra Verizon)

I can only use Spotify any length of time when I have Google maps or Waze running.

I've Googled the issue and tried changing a bunch of background data settings and nothing works.

All my other music apps play no problem

Any idea what to do?

No issue. I use Spotify while working out and wearing my Jabra Elite Active 75t BT earbuds and no problems. Can check my phone in between a set and put back down and let it time out/lock on it's own and no issues.

Just tried it at work playing Spotify straight through the phones speakers and continued to play after screen timed out/locked.

Mine will crash upon screen time out whether I'm using on Bluetooth on my car or just put down on my desk playing thru phone speakers.

Very frustrating!

uninstalled / reinstalled Spotify app?

Was one of the background settings you adjusted the Battery Optimization option? Did you turn that off for Spotify?

Hmm. You say it's crashing -- does it actually give you an error message, or does it just stop playback when the screen goes to sleep?

Spotify just got an update today. What version are you running?

Here's mine. You might want to check for an update.

No error message. When the screen goes dark the music just stops. When I hit the power button to open the screen again, the app isn't open anymore.

One other weird thing (which is probably the cause) is that when the screen goes dark/times out, my AOD doesn't come on. I have to hit the power button like twice to get my lock screen to show

Do you have any 3rd party "RAM booster" or game booster apps installed? Or any power-saving modes turned on?

Hi jmk32, is Spotify crashing when the screen times out? You can troubleshoot and fix it, but before you begin please check out if you are using an old outdated version of the Spotify App. Go to the play store and type Spotify in the search box. in the results see if an update is available update your Spotify App. Then restart your phone if yet the issue persists then follow the solutions given below.

1. Clear Spotify App data, to do so open Settings > Apps > Spotify > Storage > Clear data.

This should do the trick. Have a great day.

Tried clearing data and no luck. As soon as the screen goes dark the app closes. I'm on the latest version too.

My Always on Display doesn't come on either (just totally dark screen) when the screen times out, so I'm guessing it has something to do with that (AOD will come on if I hit the power button though).
