Sprint Appointment? and then some...

After waiting after Apple's announcement on Monday I decided to stay on Sprint and replace my failing 800w. After calling Best Buy's in my region (and some further out), none had them in stock. Soon after, I called a local Sprint store and they put me on a waiting list. They told me they would not be getting them in for two weeks, surprisingly they called me this morning to tell me they had some in and set an appointment. What are these appointments for, is it just one of the Ready Now appointments?

Also I have one other question:

Do calls often sow up as missed or go straight to Voicemail? this was an annoying occurrence with my Treo's

Appointments are to get your phone setup. You need to have a profile on Google much like you had to create a Palm profile for the Pre. Also, they explain the $10 data use fee and try to get you to get tethering.

As for voicemail, I'm using Google Voice, so I don't know what standard use is.
