So everyone said you would get the hotspot for free for a month. Yep that is a Lie they charged me 30 and a prorate of 21 my bill was 150 bucks just for buying the EVO NOT COOL from 65 to 150 I know there was the prorate but still ridiculous.

Who is this Everyone you speak of? I never heard anyone say the first month was free. The website made it very clear what the price was for hot spot. If a sprint sales person told you that when you bought the phone, I would go in and complain. Hopefully the sales person who said that will be available so you can get it straightened out.

I believe it was "free" in that you could access it without actually putting it on your plan, because of a security hole that allowed the app to work without the plan add-on. It wasn't officially free; Sprint just couldn't patch the hole in time for launch. I haven't tried lately, but I think the issue is fixed now.

Wish I could bill like sprint. Pay currently used prorated charges and then bill AHEAD the new charges. So in my case they get 1.5 the normal new charges plus a convenient premier customer activation oversight. Not to mention an increase in surcharges and taxes. I think sprint feels my funds are inexhaustible. lmao

4g hotspot free.

3g hotspot not free.

Very simple.

$30.00 is for 3g hotspot ... which is not free, therefore you added it to your account.

4g hotspot (which is still free) does not need to be added to your account.

I use 4g hotspot...... for free.

I call shenanigans.

All cell carriers bill in advance. They have been doing this since day one.

Whine, whine, whine.

Every time I've changed a plan, or added a phone, the Sprint reps have clearly indicated I would be billed in advance for the new service. Pay attention next time you're on the phone with them.

And NEVER assume anything you read on the internet is true and accurate. If you want to know if you're going to be billed for something, where do you think you'd get accurate information: some person you've never met, and know nothing about, or the company that's going to send you a bill?

My first bill was $126 but my second bill was only $30 after I was refunded my activation fee and my 25% corporate discount was applied........ The 4G hot spot isn't really "FREE" Sprint didn't have a fix in place to be able to bill for it yet so your going to get the 4G hot spot free until some time in July (or at least that is what they announced) if you use the hot spot feature on 3G your going to get a $30 bill....

Hey with T-Mobile (I had a Nexus One before my EVO) I ported my number over from T-Mobile to Sprint.... I wasn't even under contract as I paid the full price for the phone.. T-Mobile sent me a bill for a full months service... They even broke the bill down to where I paid like $20 for a few days and then they billed me $50 which shows as one day on the bill... I called them and they said no matter when you cancel your service you have to pay for that month in full.... They don't prorate final months only first months... So I only used service for less than a week and still got billed for a full month....

Yeah, that's normal.

People don't notice the first month is billed in advance when starting new service because the bill isn't due until 3 - 3.5 weeks after the service starts. But you are indeed being billed for the first month the day you start service then it's due in a normal billing timeframe. People only notice when they change something and plan costs get moved around. You don't pay more over the contract (at least not more than what you upped your plan), it just gets adjusted and moved around.

Cable/satellite providers operate the same way.

4G hotspot DOES work for free with the official Sprint Hotspot app, WITHOUT adding hotspot to your account. I use it. :)

Edit: ...until July 15th, as AldousSnow stated.

My bill went from $158 to $171. I have 3 phones, 1500 anytime, shared family plan. The only difference was the 4g $10 charge and taxes.

I have been with Sprint long enough to know when you start with new services they will prorate the current month (which was billed previously, and you paid it on the preceding month) and then bill for the next month.

When I was with Verizon, it was the same. When I left Verizon, they actually sent me a 130 dollar check for the next month that I already paid for.

Such is live with cell phone carriers. Keep an eye out for extra charges, but prorating your bill cannot be construed as extra charges.

You cannot expect services that you add for the current month to not be charged.
