Sprint Data Optimizer - what is it and do I even need it?

Does this app contribute in any way? It's showing that it's the second biggest battery drain after the screen. I'm wondering if it's valuable or another one of those apps that they use to control your data.

Basically when enabled it will determine your best connection. If your nearby a public/open WiFi it will give you the option to connect. If your in your house or nearby and going in and out of your personal WiFi signal, again it will determine which is better off 3g/LTE/WiFi and switch out to the better. It will also " remember " any connections you have made WiFi related at stores, coffee houses, friends, work, etc. and switch to those if it detects them.

Jury in my opinion is still out on it in my opinion. You can disable it from Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Data/Connection Optimizer.

This is not the connections optimizer this is something different. I got a download for it about a week ago. It's called a data optimizer. I have the connections optimizer turned off.

Hmm gotcha... I'll dig around and see what I can find.

Just going off what the app says when opening its a caching app. Basically its going to learn your most visited sites and it will preload/cache data ahead of time to speed up your experience. So basically you visit Android Central | Android Forums, News, Reviews, Help and Android Wallpapers (the blog side) frequently it will identify that and check/preload things ahead of time to make your experience faster when browsing.

This is one of those things you can choose to enable/disable based on your connection. If your around solid WiFi or LTE all the time then it probably won't benefit you much.

It definitely not worth it. Both data and connections optimizer are huge battery drains. With them turned I was getting just a few hours of battery life. Without them I'm now getting 3 times the battery life.

I've noticed with the connections optimizer it eats my battery trying to connect to my work WiFi (which I'm NOT doing lol). So in the end that really saves nothing.

Yeah.. End of the day its just another Sprint workaround to try and compensate for its sub par network. If Sprint's network was more stable and consistent they wouldn't need to create and push an app that helps with the connection to " in theory " maximize battery life and overall consumer experience.

How do I disable the data optimizer? (I already disabled connections optimizer.)

Thank you.

Never mind. Got it.
