Ive been trying to educating myself on the HTC Evo before I buy. I would like to get one in very near fature but the family budget wont allow for the $110 a month since my current plan is the $50 Boost plan. I attemped to search out these answers in other post and forums to no avail. So I decided to ask.

So with that being said, can anyone answer the following questions or point me in the direction of pages or sites containing the answers.

I've been seeing a lot of Evo's listed on eBay that are "Flashed" or "Ported" to other carriers such as Boost. I would like to know more about this.

Such as:

1) Is it legal? Iv see statements saying yes, no and maybe...

2) Some eBay listings and web sites have stated the EVO needs to have a clean ESN and others have side it doesn't. Whats true?

3) I seen that some people who offer to do this for a fee say they need a doner phone. Is this because there cloning the ESN of the doner to the EVO to make it work? Isn't cloning illegal?

4) How safe is this for the phone, long term reliability and what happens if you have to do a hard reset? What services or features will be lost or gained?

5) Besides the obvious of paying $50 a month in place of $110 for the simply everything plan, What are some other negatives and positives of doing such a thing?

6) Can a novice user do such a conversion? Is it a matter of Rooting and then Flashing the ROM and so forth.

Thanks for the response.

question

I have an Evo and my plan is 79.99

this includes unlimited txt, web, mobile to mobile, nav, sprint tv. Basically everything else besides 450 landline minutes.

if you are calling a lot of landlines then I understand, but if you mostly call to other mobiles, then this is the best plan hands down. it is more than $50 I understand, but you will be getting more and better service.

Some guys want to drive a Mercedes, but complain about have to pay for the premium gas. It costs to be the boss.

Bare minimum credit union members get 10% off their monthly bill. Might be able to get something more depending on where you/wife work.

You people do know that Boost is 50 bucks unlimited everything with shrinkage right? So pay your bill on time and your bill keeps going down until 35 bucks a month. I'm.sorry but can't beat that.

No 4G and no real tech support.

It's not like Sprint's 4G is that big of a loss considering they are being so slow rolling it out and people are still having problems with areas that do have 4G.

As for tech support, you do realize BM is owned by Sprint AND sold in their stores, right?

While the 4G is nice I find that I rarely use it. I get good download speeds with 3G when I am not at home or work, where I use Wifi. If I could I would switch over to Boost for the savings.

I'm tired of hearing about 4g this, 4 g that. Guess what WiMax is garage so who cares and WiMax covers what, maybe 20% of the population of the United States.

is the link worth a look? I might consider this when I have a spare EVO after I've moved on to the EVO 3D.

Not unless you want to fork over $20 for his "guide" or $60 for him to do it remotely. It sounds pretty suspect to me. You would probably have better luck seeing if XDA has anything to offer on the matter.
