Sprint, FROYO.EB13 USB tethering - do I have to pay?

I installed Samsung's Epic USB driver on my laptop and have it tethered. It was ridiculously simple. Just a plug and play thing and it works great. However, I now am curious if I have to pay Sprint for this. When I first got the phone, I used Sprint's Wifi hotspot application and had to pay for it. With it built into Android, do I still have to pay? I was searching the forum here, but didn't find anything that flat out said that (but I only looked for a few mins) I do/do not need to pay with the Froyo USB tether...

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Oh - and to be clear - I have not rooted the phone. I just checked "USB tethering". No message came up saying that I'd have to pay anything.

Check your billing. If you have the Hotspot feature enabled, you are paying Sprint for it. This also enables the modem which is included.

I don't pay so I get Error 67 Login fail.

Search for PDA Net here or in the App market. The app enables you to use as a modem, but not Hotspot. There's another app that lets you use as a Hotspot but you would need to root.

ive used pdanet on my old g1, it was like 14 bucks or somethign to buy but really worth it.

i am now rooted and thinkign of getting a program.

I have been using PDANet for a couple months now and love it. My phone is rooted with the AndroidCenteral TrulyEpicRebirth 1.7 ROM.
With the TER (running on the older DK28) things run nicely. The TER also has a few built in wifi-tethering apps that are useful but I don't utilize them.
TER is also not being actively supported anymore - however it is still a cream of the crop ROM, with many of us still using it in place of the EB13 update.
