I notice you can use the Sprint hotspot app even though I did not sign up for a plan. What happens if I use it without the plan?

I'm sure you will be hit w/a $30 charge for using (even testing) this service. And, if you don't complain and pay for this service, you will continue to be charged monthly until you call to discontinue the service.

I thought I read somewhere else in this forum that although the program opens and you can create a hotspot and connect to it, the device connected can't actually get out onto the internet until you turn on the service. However, I have not tested that and could be wrong.

That was my experience.. I was able to connect my laptop to the available Wifi network, but once I opened a web browser could not get to any sites.

not, you can't get on the net through it unless the paid service is enabled by calling and asking it to be enabled, so you won't get hit with a charge for testing it (and finding it doesn't work)

I haven't tried this, and I may be wrong. But my secondhand unofficial understanding is that you can turn the hotspot service on for a day or so, then turn it off, and the charges will be prorated. I think you can even log onto your Sprint account using a web brower to add/delete optional services.

Personally, I could never justify spending $30/month for this feature. But for occasional use, such as when travelling, $1/day would seem more reasonable.

I've tried it before and the computer couldn't get on the internet; I wasn't signed up for it either.
