Sprint HTC EVO 4G repeatedly sending same text message.

ISSUE: Occasionally, I get a network error message immediately after I've sent a text message. The message is flagged as unsent sometimes while other times it isn't, but the recipient receives it multiple times. How many? 41 is the highest count before my husband turned his phone off. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

BACKGROUND: My husband and I both purchased the exact same phone from the same Sprint retail store a few days apart about a month ago. His sales rep set up the phone for him and he hasn't had any complaints or issues with his phone. My rep, on the other hand, didn't sell or set up anything other than Google Mail. Coincidence? This happens to me sometimes but never more than 5 texts at once. I experience it more often on the mail app. It will tell me that its not sent but in reality it is.
