Hey all I am thinking of going from Sprint HTC EVO to the Verizon Droid X, but I have a few questions. Is the screen as good as the EVO?

Do we have a time frame of when 2.2 will be out?

Will PDA net work so I can use the data on my laptop or does VZW have some type of block on this?

Does X have wifi like the EVO?

Thanks in advance for your help out there in forum land. :)

According to tests done by DisplayMate, the Droid X is brighter, has more contrast, has more accurate colors, and has more colors (16.7 million 24-bit compared to EVO's 65k 16-bit) than the EVO.

2.2 will hopefully be out this month.

I used PDAnet on my Droid Incredible so I don't see why it wouldn't work with the Droid X.

Yes, pretty much all smartphones have wifi.

My co-worker has the Evo and we have held them side to side. They are pretty comparable. Obviously the previous poster tells you where the X excels but from what I saw there really wasn't a dramatic difference.

From everything I have read, the leaked version of 2.2 (Froyo) for X is what will be pushed to the phones in the near future. So if that is what is holding you back, go ahead an make the move. If you don't want to load the leaked version, then you'll have Froyo probably in October sometime.

As for PDAnet, it works but setup is not without issues. Let me give you some quick helpful tips that will save you a couple hours of suffering.
1. Make sure USB debugging is checked (Applications, Development, USB debugging)
2. Make sure that the USB mode is set for Mass Storage mode (From notification, USB Connection, USB Mass Storage)
3. After installing the PDANet program on your desktop, reboot the computer.

I have heard rumors regarding free tethering on a rooted Droid, but I am not yet bold enough to root my Droid X.

Yes, Droid X has Wifi but I have never had the need for it.

I am rooted for the sole purpose of free wifi-tethering. Works great!

You should really hook up the X to your wifi when you're at home, for instance. You'll be blown away by how much faster it browses and downloads. Also, being connected to wifi saves battery over being connected to 3G AND it allows you to use data while on a phone call. Highly recommend you try using the wifi!

Thanks for the tip Stang!

When I am at home I surf on the giant screen iMac and the phone takes a rest on the charger.

My work wifi connection might be a different story. It wasn't too fast with my netbook, but Ill try it

Stang, I do have a question. I am running the leaked version of Froyo and wasn't rooted when I loaded it. Will there be a root option for the leaked version or will I have to downgrade and root? Also, I have read downgrading is a PITA. Any recommendations?
