Sprint Insurance

Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything

If I use the HTC Unlock do I lose the ability to get my phone replaced with the sprint insurance plan? Are there any repercussions I should be worried about with doing the HTC unlock?

I have read several reports of people taking their HTC unlocked phones in Sprint stores with no issues. I would always flash back to stock prior to going in.

I am not 100% sure about the HTC warranty. I "think" they will still honor the warranty for hardware defects, but not for software issues.

I do not know these as facts, but I do read a lot of Android forums, and those seen to be what a lot of people have experienced.

I'm not real sure about this policy, but looking at it from this perspective...

HTC offers a way to unlock the phone. Okay. So maybe if you were to deal with sending your device to HTC directly they would honor service but not many people go this route do to how long it takes, etc...

But the insurance and warranty is offered through Sprint/Assurion so I would say Sprint & Assurion have the final say in if they want to warranty or service the device. Sprint's policy is if you root/unlock/modify your device they don't have to honor your device for warranty/repair.

I would contact your local Sprint store you deal with for service and repairs and get their word on this before doing so. Maybe even more than one Sprint store just to see if opinions vary on this or is it set in stone.

But regardless you do always have the option of locking the phone back up and returning to stock form if need be.

it dosent matter if your unlocked. but we will run an ruu and put it back to stock before we diagnose it. after that we may have to run it on a automated diagnostic machine that looks for problems then if it fails we mostlikely will send it off.
