I had just noticed this in the settings and was just wondering if anyone has tried using this yet and when is it most ideal to use?

I don't have the device, but I would say in an instance where you have low signal, but can get to a hotspot, like a Starbucks or something.

This would be similar to T-Mobile's wifi calling and I don't think Sprints will do it. I know when I had Sprint yo had to get an Airave for the house if you wanted cell service there.. And the Airave would use your Internet.

Bummer. Seems like it would be a nice option to have.

The internet calling allows you to set up your phone for a SIP account. It does not allow standard calls via internet /wifi.

Isnt the sip through your ISP? The same thing as VOIP , you need a account with the ISP ? Has nothing to do with Sprint

Yes, SIP is a VoIP protocol. It stands for Session Initiation Protocol, and is the most common VoIP standard for consumer lines. You can get a low-cost SIP line from future-nine.com and choose plans that allow for outbound only, or outbound and inbound with a dedicated number. You can get more robust plans (and service) from providers such as callcentric.com and voipo.com as well as others.
