Sprint recommends

I went to Sprint today about my battery issue. I cannot get more than 4hrs of battery time if I use minimal Internet usage and text messaging. Their service repair downloaded Advanced Task Killer and set my roaming usage to Sprint only. So it looks like Sprint recommends a task killer. And by the way I still see no improvement on my battery. I am down to almost 50% with about 1hrs worth of texting and light Internet use. I've about had it with this phone. Funny too right after I got there another guy came in with the same exact problem.

Yeah you must have something running that you don't know about. I get at least 6 hours on 4G while browsing the net, while streaming Slacker, while texting, etc. Also, I really don't mind charging during the day, but I am really hoping Powermat releases their powerpak battery for the Evo soon.

Simply installing ATK doesn't do anything. Did they configure it at all?

Also I wouldn't consider this a "recommendation": more likely a lazy tech.

Have you followed any of the suggestions in the battery usage threads? I'm getting great battery life after only adjusting some of the stock settings (no rooting/hacking, no third-party apps).

sounds like something is wrong with your battery, or your phone is constantly searching for a signal. Is there a place (work, home, etc) where you get bad reception? If not, I would ask for a new battery first, if that didn't work, a new phone.

I also had same problem as you. I would get 4 hours of use from the phone, I installed Advanced Task Killer as well...it did NOTHING. I made sure nothing was running yet it didnt matter. Also the phone ran very hot while just sitting idle.
Solution: Exchanged for a Blackberry. LOL.

I pulled my phone off the charger this morning at 7:00 Central, have used my phone extensively browsing, taking pics, sending text, sent emails, listened to mp3s, uploaded photos to photobucket, used 4G about an 2 hours. I did however charge it for about 15 minutes in my car grabbing some lunch and my battery is still holding up very well. Just shy of 70 percent and very much green.

I took these an hour ago and have continued to upload photos, these very ones I'm posting infact through my photobucket app, still have 4G on, sent several emails, sent pic messages, text messages....everything I'd been doing leading up to taking these screen shots and my charge hasn't gone down but 2%.

I think something is running without your knowledge and you're battery's taking a huge toll due to it. Unacceptable...I agree but perhaps it's got nothing to do with the phone or battery itself but rather an app, as aforementioned, running and thus draining your charge at an alarming rate.

I know someone having the exact same prob but I am not. I experimented today and i took 6 hours to go from 100% to 25% with heavy use. I have my Social Live wallpaper open, Meebo is always open, twitter is always opening and syncing.

I don't know if people are getting bad batteries or what. I always suggest turning down the brightness on the screen, not allowing Stocks and News to Sync, turning off 4G.

I run ATK too at the Crazy setting and the When Screens Turns off setting. Plus anytime i put my phone down, touch the widget which closes programs too.

I agree. Sounds like you got a lazy tech who didn't want to take the time to look in to the real issue. I'd go in and see if someone else can look at it and then express your concern at the lack of support you were offered originally.

So it looks like Sprint recommends a task killer

Sprint salespeople are idiotic script reading sheep.

What if when you bought a computer the salesperson told you that you would have to kill running tasks all throughout the day in order to save battery? That would sound kind of ridiculous wouldn't it?

You have a week signal. Your phone.is dying a 3G signal. Its searching for a stronger signal. That's what is killing your battery.

Well, texting, browsing, for an hour straight will kill any device. That means your display was also on for that hour. So for you to have 50% remaining is actually quite impressive.

You also have been using your camera for almost 30% of the 3 hours, which is an hour. I'm actually impressed that you have that much life left.

There is something funky with these phones.

My battery life was very good and about 3 days ago, out of the blue, i started getting maybe 4 hours out of a full charge. (whereas before i'd go the whole day).

I had installed a few apps, so i removed them...nothing changed.

Today, i did a factory reset due to another reason and magically my battery is working amazingly well again. There is something in the system or a certain app just running away with the battery.

Take a look at your battery usage and see what is killing it.

If you dont see anything than maybe you got a bad battery. If it is not the battery, get a new device.

3 step process- not rocket science.

I've followed all of them. Even after I went to Sprint I went to BB where I bought it, they said the same thing. Just use a task killer. And both places I went to when I told them about using a task killer could do more harm than good they both pretty much told me wherever I read that is nonsense. Currently BB recommends me using my task killer setting at aggressive.

I think some people have to be either exaggerating their use or their battery life or you flat out got a defective battery. I get 15 - 18 hours on what I consider moderate use (90 minutes of web browsing through out the day, 40 - 50 text messages with maybe 10 with a picture, 20 pictures, uploading about 10 to Facebook and 2 - 3 e-mailed to family and friends, probably read and send a good 20 e-mails a day, 5 - 10 status checks on Facebook and between 20 - 30 minute of actual talking) Even on a day when my daughter got the phone and spent almost 2 hours browsing You Tube Video's and then me watching about 45 minutes of Sprint TV World Cup coverage plus all the above I got a good 12 hours out of my phone with still a little life remaining... Just because of the initial reviews I do have a back up battery but I honestly have not even switched out batteries on the go yet... I get plenty of life to make me from 7 in the morning until 10 or 11 at night.... If I have a feeling it's going to be a later night than usual I either plug it up in the car or at my desk during the day... 99% of the time though I don't plug it up at all during the day...

I tried out and used ATK for 3 - 4 days and I have not seen enough of a change in battery life to really say it helps or hurts any....
