Sprint S4 is GSM capable?

So I was looking through the PDF manual, and on page 119 there is a section called "Access Email and Data Services on GSM/UMTS Networks." Does that mean that in theory the Sprint S4 is capable of being used with other sim cards overseas? Will Sprint unlock phones like some carriers, or do you need to use one of those online services to buy an unlock code?

For international travel, Sprint will unlock the SIM so you can use your phone overseas. With the unlock, however, you won't be able to use US GSM networks.

Optimummind, do you know if it will be possible to remove the SIM that came with the phone originally, and use other SIM cards purchased locally abroad? Thanks!
