Sprint sucks. Cancellation problems

I hate to air out Sprint's dirty laundry but they have been very incompetent as I have waited patiently this last month for them to close their account as per their return policies.

On March 2nd 2015, I took advantage of best buy's one price one plan sprint line. I opened a line and picked out an Iphone 6 Gold 16gb.
During march 2nd and March 3rd what I discovered was that Sprint's service is subpar, and very much unusable.

On March 3rd I decided to cancel the account. Now I am not completely caught up on download/upload I don't care if I get 40mbps or 10 mbps. As long as my phone works interrupted, I am fine. It didn't work fine at all. Pandora, Internet browsing, youtube were unusable and often returned "touch to retry network yada yada"

I cancelled the account at Best buy, which is what Sprint recommends (cancelling at point of activation).
Best buy had some problems, but ultimately said it was cancelled after they phoned in. They recommended I call 2-3 days later to confirm with Sprint.

On March 5th I called Sprint. They said the line had not been cancelled but would be happy to troubleshoot the service. I had to explain I did not have service anymore as I made cancellation. CSR Lady said they'd start an investigation and I'd be called within 4 business days.
I was not very impressed with Sprint's CSR, figured I'd go to best buy to confirm. Best buy once again did the cancellation, and called in the middleman company. They confirmed 100% the line was cancelled, and Sprint should have received notice immediately.
Again they recommended I call 2-3 days later. If anything happened however best buy would take care of it. Not sure what that means.
Since March 5th my phone line and phone disappeared from My sprint account. I figured it had been cancelled properly so I did not call 2-3 days later.
I called March 10th'ish because I received an email saying I needed to pay for monthly service. They said the account had not been closed but was removed from my account? I don't think the CSR knew what I was talking about.
I had to explain the situation to two different CSR agents. The last person I spoke with said by April, an investigation would be opened. I explained an investigation should have been opened march 3rd. No such thing they said, the investigation opened march 3rd was scheduled for beginning of April.
Also I was told I could be charged for cancelling the lease early. When I explained again I had cancelled within the return period she would ignore me or pretended to not know.

April 7th I received an email saying I owed $558.29 for cancelled lease line. I called in they gave me the run around and put me on hold for 30 minutes. The CSR rep looked at the notes and also said the $558 was an outrageous bill, and that I should NOT be paying for the cancellation since I had cancelled 1 day into service. Apparently they had an investigation that opened April 3rd because someone else called in regarding the cancellation. They refused to tell me who. In any case they claim 5 business days for investigation to close, but nothing yet.
I asked to speak with a supervisor or someone who could resolve the problem by the same day I ended up hanging up (50 minute call).

In any case I finally found all my documentation. Both my lease agreement, and service contract state that return policies should be looked up on sprint's website. Which says all leasing/easypay/contracts have a 14 day return period, with a 3 day grace period (no activation fee, just restocking fee that is up to the store).

TL;DR
I bought sprint service. Cancelled 1 day later. Sprint wants to charge me full fees for cancelling the lease, and contract.

Do you have any paper records of the cancellation? If so, I would send a photocopy by registered letter to Sprint, and then start a complaint with the BBB, and probably even the FCC.

I did receive a receipt from best buy for the return of the device the very next day (sprint account and phone # are in the receipt). I also have receipt for the original transaction. I also have digital copy of the lease agreement from Sprint, and digital copy from best buy (they could not provide either in paper) of the service contract.

I will follow your advice and do so tomorrow.

I suggested the registered letter so that someone would have to sign for it. I think you can get a copy of the record from the Post Office. This way, Sprint can't pull the 'We didn't get it' line....

I've filed a complaint with the FCC. Going to follow up with BBB tomorrow, and see about mailing the same complaint to Sprint, word for word.
Thanks for the help, you are very helpful.

BBB, won't do anything unfortunately. ........send the certified letter to the corporate office. You are right that sprint is a subpar network......when you returned the phone was it undamaged ? WhaT phone was it ? Just trying to be helpful.

Iphone 6 16gb gold. It was mint like new. Only 1 day old and was kept in a case.
Best buy received, inspected, and approved the phone for return.

I am on the phone with Sprint. Apparently they delay the process claiming "the phone has to reach Sprint" before credit is applied, this takes 35 days. What are they doing, having a bike courier deliver it cross country?
Meanwhile they threaten your credit for no reason.

Today Sprint finally closed the account and removed the balance owed.

According to them Best buy "never cancelled". They claimed the Best buy representative said there had never been a return.
When I went into Best buy to talk to them *Sprint recommended I had them talk to them directly) turns out the representative HAD told Sprint it was returned and cancelled but Sprint apparently lied.
Sprint got caught lying, but at least now I don't owe.

Best Buy can be shifty too. I bought a HP laptop that was on sale and they preinstalled all this extra software by Geek Squad. I told them not to charge me for it because I did not want out. They agreed because they had all five in stock with these installs and no virgin box ones.

A few days later I was in line at the service desk for something else where this guy was returning the same laptop with the extra crap on it. They refused to take it back because of the custom installed software he agreed to with the laptop. He gave up and walked away.

They were installing this stuff not only to upsell more stuff, but make it impossible to return.

Oh, Sprint is also shifty as well. They both suck.

Indeed. I don't think I'll go to best buy again unless it's for small things.

They do not pre install software, that is done by the manufacturer. .......if you get any software it's either by DVD or digital download. Geek squad does not open the boxes, as they would have to sell the computers as "open box", and open box causes them to lose a percentage off the price usually around 10%. You are a liar

They did. It was a non OEM antivirus that Best Buy preinstalled. All the boxes were open for the HP Pavilion G4 with an AMD A3 processor for $320 on sale back in September 2011. Why I remember it? Because they ran a special if you bought a HP computer you could buy the HP Touchpad fit $150. I did not buy it with the laptop but went back and got it soon after. I was in the customer service line getting the price adjusted when this whole thing went down.

Here is a picture of that said Touchpad running CM11. I can take a picture of the laptop as well of you want.

Then again you will probably still say I'm lying. So unless you were in line with me back in September 2011 buying these items with me, I suggest you keep to yourself.

Customer service issues aren't carrier specific. I was with Verizon & switched to Sprint, mainly for unlimited data but I was also really annoyed with Verizon's shady methods.

Both an in store rep & a phone rep tried to convince me that I needed to upgrade to a more expensive plan since I was supposedly going over my data usage repeatedly. I wasn't... but if I wasn't someone who monitored my own usage, they'd have had me unnecessarily spending more money. I think all carriers are a bunch of scheisters.

A friend of mine was hoodwinked when he tried to leave AT&T and got whacked for a ETF for BYOB iPad with LTE.

I've been with Sprint for probably about 10 years now and I'm also considering moving on from them to either Verizon or AT&T...Sprint's service has been terrible for me over the past few years and I live near Philadelphia, a very large city...the only thing that's been keeping me with Sprint is their unlimited data; I don't like having to worry about going over any limits, but when my service is terrible, it finally hits a tipping point.

If you have some money to spare, you could buy or rent an unlimited plan for both att or Verizon via eBay.

tell me more, please.

You can buy at&t business plan with unlimited international and domestic data for $850 from one guy. Or rent Verizon plans. Just search for them on eBay.

thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I want to deal with all of that, to be honest.

The guy who sells the att unlimited international and domestic works for att business. Takes less then 24 hours and to pass a credit check and you're done.
