Sprint & T-Mobile Possible Merger

The Sprint/Nextel merger went so well. Lets try it again. They seem to be doing perfectly fine, why risk it?

Well the Nextel thing was stupid and it Hesse was not here, so now it makes more sense for them to merge lot more sense. Especially if Sprint will go LTE on top of WiMax and T-Mobile is looking to get in on 4G plus the parent company of T-Mob wants to sell of the American part anyway. So it is a win win for both and Sprint will get 33 million more people.

What would be odd is the completely different networks. GSM and CDMA together? I wouldn't mind having a CDMA phone with a SIM card for traveling abroad, but its not necessary.

They are not talking about merging CDMA and GSM, if they will merge it will be for 4G ( LTE & WiMax ) Sprint can put LTE on top of WiMax. This will help Sprint with influx of $$$ that T-Mob can bring to table.

These are two companies with some of the worst 3G coverage in the US. They need each other desperately. See the Sensorly maps to compare real signal strength users get to Verizon. No contest. Here is the coverage they really have:
Sprint
T-Mobile
Unfortunately these are low res maps. Download the app to see high res and it is even more pronounced. :(

According to Sensorly, ATT has a more anemic coverage map than Sprint, which is actually true. From personal experience, I like my Sprint coverage. Its pretty good compared to when I had Verizon. It may not be as good nationwide, but where I've been in the past 3 years with the 2 service providers, I've had great coverage with both companies in what seems to be comperable. I am also receiving faster data transfer rates with Sprint from when I had Verizon. ATT was pure garbage, which is what Sensorly map shows, despite not having used an ATT phone in 3 years.

FYI, Yellow > Green > Blue
These are from Sensorly.com Maps.

if it speeds up the build out of 4G (whatever the technology) then i say go for it. even if they don't merge but agree to share the network i would be ok with that.
