Sprint Upgrade Disaster!

I'm so upset right now. Last week my mom noticed we gotten a flyer for being able to upgrade to the Note 8 for my number. I then got two text messages saying that I could upgrade doing the lease. My husband had called our local Sprint store twice about getting info on this. They said that I have the Galaxy Forever plan but I don't see it on my plan when looking on the site. I went ahead and did the upgrade. Now they want around $375.00 right now. I had just paid the bill which is due on the 29th. I then noticed when I was doing the swap and activating the Note 8 that a message popped up saying that I still owe money for the Galaxy S7 Edge. Then why the heck did we get notices saying that I can upgrade!? Sounds like they scammed us big time. Now we'll have to go to the store tomorrow. They were the ones offering the damn upgrade till Oct 31st. This is insane.

First off, I'm sorry for your frustration. Was your s7 edge on a payment plan/lease?

Yeah I was paying it off. I believe $32.99 a month but it wasn't under leasing. I believe there was two options for paying it off. 2 year contract. But if that's the case then why did they say that I could go do the 12 months lease? Something isn't adding up and I think they made a big mistake....

I'm not on Sprint. I'm on Verizon. But I was just curious. I'm on a payment plan on all my phones and I get a notice that I can upgrade when I get like 50% paid then I can either turn phone in or pay off phone completely then put another phone on that line. So I'm curious if Sprint has you under something simular. Sounds like if you paying $32.99 a month then they most likely got you on the phone payment plan. But yeah go to the store and hopefully you get a good sales person to help you understand what they got going on. I really hope you are able to get the note8. It's a wonderful phone. Let us know how it turns out. In mean time someone that is actually on Sprint might chime in. Fingers crossed for you.

Too late this time, but I'd suggest never taking an offer like this unless you have a copy of the details in writing. If the details are on a website, save a screenshot before proceeding.

Best wishes to get this straightened out.

Always best to wait until lease is up. Yes in a way they got you.
I paid my lease off then upgraded.
I had 2 phone's so you can imagine, and I wasn't
On the Galaxy Forever program.
I'm so sorry, with Sprint, you always should talk to accounts dept. First, Skip sales.
Within 14 days you can opt out of contract and return back into your original phone's and agreement if not mistaken.

you always have to pay off any payments in full with Sprint before upgrading. they don't just go away. if your phone is paid in full you can upgrade without paying anything. if you still owe on a contract, of any type, then of course they will want their money. you can upgrade any time if you can afford to, i.e. phone paid in full or pay in full before upgrading, so them letting you know was just normal promotional stuff. mine always says I can upgrade. I know I have to pay off anything remaining first.

Just because they offer, doesn't mean it's free.

They are giving out false info then. They said that if a person has Galaxy Forever plan a person can return the existing phone or buy it for the remaining balance. I choose the first option to return the phone. The only thing I should of had to pay was the activation fee and even that they said it would of been wavered... I do have the two texts still and the flyer as well. I shouldn't have to owe anything unless I'm buying the phone. That's the whole point of the Galaxy Forever plan.

You have 14 days to return the N8 if you feel that you have been scammed into buying something that isn't within your budget right now. I would imagine, however, it might be difficult to go back to the 7edge after using the N8.

Sprint has been doing this lately, saying that you are able to upgrade. But when you look at all the info, all they're really saying is that if you pay off your old phone, you can upgrade. Has nothing to do with the Galaxy Forever plan except that you can upgrade after 12 payments, whether you take 12 months, or 3 months, they'll still need 12 payments before upgrade, plus your old phone.

I never trust the info that the sales people spout. They're just trying to get a sale. I remember the S2 I wanted and my parents went to the tmobile store while I was at work one night. Anyway the sales guy at that time didn't tell him the payments were over 24 months, my dad thought he was getting the phone for really cheap and the sales guy didn't mention you make payments on it. I kept the phone but he was mad when he got our monthly bill.

AT&T had the same the same thing where they said I could upgrade... for $189.

I just switched from AT&T to Sprint and traded my S8+ for a Note 8. Sprint had a deal where I could lease the phone at half price, so I was going from 3GB data to unlimited, getting a Note 8 and paying less per month. Problem is I had to make three trips to the Sprint store... three... because three different salespersons couldn't port my telephone number from AT&T to the new phone. The last manager's final answer was "well, I don't know what to do. Can't you just use a new telephone number?" I finally called Sprint and they fixed it in five minutes.

Same thing happened to us with 4 lines but once we shipped the original phones back and they farted around logging them in for a month all the old amounts were credited. I did need to get get executive support involved but they cleared it up in minutes.

Yes It's been 12 months. We went to the store today. They said that the balance goes away once they get the old phone from UPS. This was NOT mentioned at all anywhere on the site or on the flyer... It's very deceiving information. If it's not gone within a week I'll be making a complaint big time.

I went through this with my s8 plus when I went to note 8. Since u have Galaxy forever u have to have 50% of the device paid off before u can upgrade. However if u signed a 2 year contract that's probably what the charge is.

I read this thread last night after having taken advantage of this same offer earlier this week. Went from s7 Edge that I still had 11 lease payments on for around $340 to the Note 8. I made certain at the time of the upgrade that the remaining s7 Edge balance was being waved and I was told yes. Nothing in my paperwork or on my account online shows anything about needing to pay the balance nor did I get any emails or pop ups saying I needed to pay. After reading this, I called Sprint today to verify. They said clearly, the remaining s7 Edge balance was waved and that the only thing I am now paying on is the Note 8 lease with Galaxy Forever. They were even able to tell me what my next bill (due out tomorrow) was and it all fits. I suspect it is either a different process for a lease or the sales person that I delt with handled things differently. Keep on them, it can be done.

Let me settle this. If you are on the Galaxy Forever plan, you can upgrade any time after making 12 lease payments. You can upgrade the next month if you just pay the equivalent of 11 months worth. The reason the second half of payments goes away and you do not owe that is because you are required to return your currently leased device (importantly, in good working condition, any cracks or broken parts would have to be repaired before trade in is allowed).

I've been on the Galaxy Forever for the last two phones and every time I go in, hand them mine, take me new one, and start all over on a new set of 12 payments until same time next year that I do it all over again :)

If you are on Galaxy Forever, the renaming lease payments are voided out. They are technically paid in full using the device you are giving them back as the currency. You are also eligible to upgrade on 12 payments. So if you make all 12 of those next month, you are Upgrade eligible again.

Now this part I'm not exactly 100% on, but almost, if you get a new phone with new monthly payments, but are required to pay off your current device, that probably means you aren't required to trade in that phone. So you get to keep it, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or just throw it in a drawer for a rainy day. I'd be mindful of the up side there, for us 12 month people it's almost a waste because we don't really get anything in the end. Basically paid $30 renting a phone for a year.

Not exactly true in my case. I had the S7Edge on lease because of the Note 7 debacle. When I got the Note 8 I gave it to my daughter. I got a notice on my dashboard that all of my phones were eligible for upgrade, even the Note 8. So I got my daughter the S9+ and my grand daughter the S9. They also sent an RMA kit to send the S7Edge back and they waived the remaining balance. Now mind you, I have 7 lines with Sprint and have been with them for 8+ years, so I don't know if that made a difference or not.
