People in or traveling thru MT can anyone verify spotty 4g coverage in Kalispell,Great Fall, Helena or Billings?

I am in washington and have found 4g in cities not announced as having 4g, I was doing some reading and the clearwire map shows 4g in those cities here, I am very curious to see if anyone picks it up in MT

I had read on a message board somewhere that they couldn't connect to the tower in Billings and Bismarck. I tried finding the post again, but couldn't find it. It said something to the effect that it could see the signal, but it wouldn't connect. It was an infinite loop. They wondered if it had something to do with the fact that they were roaming when trying to connect.

I would hypothesize that they might be correct. Looking at sensorly.com, no one has uploaded any reports from Montana, or that whole region. This is very odd considering that 95% of the other Clearwire cities are showing up. However, this is the big Sprint black hole with no native service. Sprint users roam in this region. They wondered if Sprint devices need to be on the Sprint network to connect to 4G, and not be roaming.

About 75 miles from here in Alamosa, Colorado, Sprint does not have service, but they have a Clearwire 4G tower. So there, my phone will be roaming. I'm heading up that way next week and I'm going to try to re-create this same problem.

If you head out to Montana, let us know if you end up connecting!

will do. My brother lives there but he dropped sprint. Clearwires map shows 4g in the cities I listed.

BAD NEWS!!!

I was not able to connect in Alamosa, Colorado. My Sprint Evo 4G device was roaming when I entered town. I turned on my 4G antenna and clicked "Scan for 4G service."

It said, "Scanning", then "Connecting to Sprint". It held there for two or three seconds, then went back to "Scanning". Then in 5 to 10 seconds it would find the Sprint 4G signal again and try to connect. It just kept doing this over and over. After 45 minutes, I gave up.

Based on my experiences, and what I have read on other message boards, it appears you cannot connect to Sprint 4G service if your phone is roaming on another carrier. No matter how good the 4G signal is. That's a major bummer in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas! :(
