Android Central Question

I just bought a Motorola E5 Play phone, and I notice that whenever a voicemail comes in, a Sprint Visual Voicemail text comes up in my Messages app. It informs me that I have a voicemail and that I should tap and hold 1 in the dialer to listen to it. This Sprint Visual Voicemail app is not on my phone. I would like to know how I can have the voicemail notifications show on my Phone app instead of the Messages app. I don't want to use Sprint Visual Voicemail.

Thank you.

Your phone/contacts app should be showing you a "missed call". That app knows nothing about voicemail.

Your Messages app is showing the message because Sprint used SMS to send you a text letting you know you have a voicemail. The only other option would be to use the Sprint Visual Voicemail app to get the native notifications.

Just out of curiosity, why not use Sprint Visual Voicemail? It is much easier than using the phone keypad to navigate the voicemail system.

Hi, I am on the Sprint network. I want to add that this is a used phone and all the other phones I had did not text me when a voicemail was available.

I tapped on the link in the text (one of the texts informing me that I have a voicemail) and it took me to the Google Play Store and the Sprint Visual Voicemail app option. However, the message states "Your device isn't compatible with this version.", so what I want to know is how I can stop the texts from coming to me. I typed "STOP", but a text message comes up stating that I used an invalid short code, so the texts informing me of a voicemail continue.

Thanks.

Is this used phone originally from Sprint as well, or was it completely unlocked, or from a different carrier?

Open your Phone app, tap Menu>Settings>Call Settings>Voicemail, and go to the Voicemail Setup option. What number is listed there? Is it your own phone number, or some other number?

B. Diddy, Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I purchased this used phone from Assurance Wireless. I tried get to the Voicemail option as you instructed, but I have a different setup. Instead, this is what I did: Phone icon>Menu>Settings>Voicemail>Advanced Settings>Setup. It was my voicemail number.

I contacted my service provider, but they didn't know how to help me stop these texts regarding Sprint Visual Voicemail. Any more ideas?

Thanks.

Worst case scenario is that you add the Voicemail short code to your SMS block list.

Do you get any other notification that you have voicemail, or just the SMS message?

I'm not directly familiar with Sprint's practices, but it's possible this is something you can't get around. If so, then you one possible workaround would be to get a Google Voice number, link you Sprint number to it, and have people call you on your Google Voice number. The Google Voice voicemail system is generally a lot better than the carrier's.

ManiacJoe, Thanks for your help. I was able to block the short code and I no longer receive the texts. In regard to your question, no I do not get any other notification that I have voicemail.
