I know there are threads about no VVM on the nexus 5 but doesn't android have built in VVM? Why can't we just use that? Or am I thinking about windows phone?

Iphones have the VVM out of the package. Most major services have a VVM app in the Play Store, but most are not compatible with the N5. You can find several people on here that have stated they were able to get and it worked though. Personally, I use Goggle Voice VM. I get the VVM and email transcription.

Sprint has Google Voice integration and works better on sprint for some reason (many report GV problems with MMS, but not on sprint). I've had it since my GNex days, and it's awesome.

This is what I do as well. You don't need full GV integration (if you are on Sprint). Just use GV for voicemail. Works great.

This is what I do exactly. I have been using it for years and it has never let me down.
