This kinda clears up some questions.
Both Sprint and Google provide online support for Google Voice. Here are answers to some common questions to help get you started.
Where can I learn more about the features of Google Voice?
Google has created some great videos to explain Google Voice, as well as a full set of support articles you can refer to if you need help too.
How do I sign up?
It's easy. Just visit
Google Voice and sign in with your Google account. Click on I want to use my existing number, enter your Sprint phone number, and follow the simple sign-up process to get started.
What happens to my monthly plan with Sprint?
Nothing changes. You don't pay more for these new features, and you don't have to sign a new contract. Your monthly minutes, texts and calling features all stay the same.
Will this work on my phone?
Google Voice integration is only available on Sprint-branded phones. Nextel phones, PowerSource phones, and prepaid phones from Assurance Wireless, Boost Mobile, Common Cents Mobile and Virgin Mobile are not compatible with Google Voice.
Do I have to have an Android phone to use Google Voice with my Sprint phone number?
Nope. Any Sprint-branded phone will work. However, if you do have an Android phone you can use the Google Voice app for instant access to transcribed voicemail and convenient controls right at your fingertips.
What if I decide I don't want to use Google Voice anymore?
You can stop using Google Voice anytime; just sign into your Google Voice account, click on Settings, and click disable next to your Sprint number.
I'm already using Google Voice for my voicemail. Can I keep doing that?
Absolutely. If you want to start using your Sprint number as your Google Voice number, you'll be able to switch when you sign into Google Voice. Sign in to your Google Voice account, click on the Upgrade my account link, select I want to use my existing number, enter your Sprint phone number, and follow the simple sign-up process to get started. When you sign up to use your Sprint number as your Google Voice number, Sprint will use Google Voice for your voicemail, so you will keep getting your messages through Google Voice. Pressing "1" on your phone will take you directly to Google Voice. If you'd rather keep your Sprint number as-is you'll be able to keep them separate.
What if I already have a Google Voice number?
Existing Google Voice users with Sprint service can now display their Google Voice number when making calls and sending texts. You can enable this by clicking on the link next to your Sprint phone in your Google Voice settings page. Learn more
If I sign up for Google Voice, will I be charged for text messages if I don't have a plan or add-on that includes text messages?
You can send text messages through Google Voice on the web or through the Google Voice for AndroidTM app without incurring a fee from Sprint. Texts sent directly from your phone will be treated as any other text message, so if you are not on a plan that includes texts you'll be charged the standard messaging fees.
Will multimedia messaging (MMS) be sent through Google Voice?
MMS is currently not supported by the Google Voice integration, so MMS sent from your Sprint phone will always display your Sprint number and will not display in your Google Voice inbox.
How does this affect International calling?
International calls placed from your handset will be placed and billed through Google Voice at Google Voice's low rates. You will need Google Voice calling credit to place those calls.
