They will be sold out in next few days

lol, yes. That is what people call a fire sale. Probably will be sold out within the hour of the store opening if the price drops.

Oh yeah, if they hit the TouchPad fire sale price of $100, they'll be gone immediately.

I called a few staples in my area and it looks like the actual sale begins right after the android event, so i was told.

like, the day after, or should I head over to staples that night? anyone know if any other retailers are doing this?

Probably like RIGHT after the Google event or when/if they announce the price drop, maybe call first just to make sure. Don't know how fast Staples turn around time will be. I don't know what time the event is going to be though.

I would be concerned with how many units a staples would have in hand as well. I can't imagine they would carry a lot

They don't. The stock of any single SKU at Staples is generally fairly low. Staples is smart enough not to waste money holding a lot of units of anything electronic in stock. Clearance sales mean they are losing money on units.

I also sincerely doubt they will really cut the price down to a hundred bucks. One fifty maybe. More likely they'll get sent back to Google for replacement spares.

But time will tell.

I can see 150. I'm rooting for $100 though, I'm getting my daughters Nexus 7s for Christmas and would love to save some money

I could see these being $99 dollar black Friday door busters. Worked retail for years and stuff like this , this time of year gets stockpiled for black Friday. If they do I'll by them for my kids to use for school work great for research and all the papers they have to submit thru Google docs now.

There's not a lot of stock of 8gb units in stores. I have a feeling whats left will be sold with a few days of the google event when the 8gb is discontinued. I would only buy if it was $100 but no more.

I'm just having trouble imagining Staples marking these down to $100. If the 16GB is going to be $200 now, they don't need to go quite that "fire sale" for people to still buy them unless (as has been suggested before) they set them aside for a possible "Black Friday" blowout. It would be better for Staples to send them back to Google at cost rather than take a $50+ loss on each unit (or maybe Google will subsidize the clearance rather than accept them as returns from Staples).

I'd be willing to bet they'll be a minimum of $150, possibly even around $175, because people will still buy them at $25 less than the 16GB if they think they'll never use the extra memory. They won't get a stampede for them at $175, but they'll sell out relatively quickly. At $175, an 8GB Nexus would blow the doors off anything else in that price range, heck at $200 it STILL would.

Using them for Black Friday sounds like a great bait and switch sale for them. They already don't have very many in stock. Reduce the price to $150 for the remaining handful. When those few sell out customers can buy the more expensive in stock product. On the other hand, they could just free up shelf space for the next month by selling them now at a slightly reduced price. They're almost certain to be sold by Black Friday.

Just called all the Staples in my area. Only one had them in stock and they were still $199. The others said that they never got any more 8GB's in after the initial shipment. Oh well. I'll wait and call again after the 29th.

The price is not dropping for the 8gb. I work at staples and there is no up comming price drop. It has been discounted but not clx yet.... I hate how forums start rumors with no proof
