The workaround I use is to just put calls on speakerphone and use the Recorder app anyway. Already built-in. Certainly not as convenient but it works.

>Google stated that as long as the app is the default dialer or is pre-loaded, it does not need accessibility capability to access the incoming audio stream, and won’t be a violation

So why don't developers make apps that are default dialers in that case? I guess the problem is deeper than this. I guess they're cutting it off for default handler apps as well. And the pre-installed recorders... I mean, how many of Androids have them? Seriously, can we make a list of such devices?

I think violation they talking about is like in the US its against the law in some states to record someone without their permission.

Yes, it's ridiculous because some states require all parties of the conversation to be aware that the conversation is recorded; some states require that only one party (usually the recording party) be aware that the conversation is recorded.

Ridiculous? Quite right! Recording a conversation should be fair game: doesn't stop law enforcement or the intelligence agencies from doing it does it? Far too many good people get walked over by unscrupulous individuals when the only solid defence might be to clandestinely record an incriminating conversation.

I'm pretty sure law enforcement in most regions needs a warrant in order to do that.

Hi Bla1ze, you're lucky; won't work on my phone. Voice Recorder is disabled during phone calls on my phone. Back to square one!

Hi Allen, on my phone the pre-installed voice recorder is disabled during phone calls.
