Startup takes a really long time

I'm not sure if something is wrong with my phone, if it is GB related, or if I installed an new app that is causing this, but my phone is taking a really long time to start up.
I turn it off every night. I tried the new "fast" option from GB, but that never worked for me (every time I started it up from the "fast", it rebooted itself in about 5-10 minutes).

Anyway, now my start up is taking a long time. How do I figure out what the cause might be?

How long is "a long time?" Are we talking a minute or so, or several minutes? My Evo has never been a speedy booter.

I turn it off every night to save the battery. Why would I want it on for 8-10 hours when I am sleeping? I don't have strong signal in my house, so I assume it would be dropping signal and then searching for it and it would just eat up my battery.

As for how long it takes, I would say around 5 minutes. My wife also has an Evo so I think I need to turn them on at the same time to really gauge how different they are.

Five minutes seems excessive, but I don't know what might be causing that. Do you have a lot of apps installed? Lots of contacts?

Also: instead of turning the phone off to save the battery at night, just stick it in airplane mode. That will save you the lengthy reboot at least.

WTF? why not just plug it in over night and leave it on? what about if someone has to call you in an emergency? you could also use Airplane Mode but i think that's almost just as silly.

If anyone has to call me in an emergency, that would call me house, not my cell.
I heard that leaving it plugged in all night long could eventually lower the amount of charge the phone takes. But my guess is you will tell me that it won't

I don't think there's any harm in leaving the phone plugged in all night (I do this sometimes, if the battery is low when I go to bed), but I'm not going to tell you to do so if your preference is otherwise. :)

I've plugged mine in every night for over a year and the battery is just fine. It's a new-school battery. It will not hurt it. Ever since G-Bread, my Evo boots noticeably slower, but I only reboot it every couple of weeks. You are not alone.

Ditto for me. Even with different roms it loads slow. I've also plugged mine in all night without any problems. Plus if memory serves correct, the phone will stop charging once it hits 100%. After I unplug the battery shows about 95% within a minute. That's on the 3500mah battery.

I am having the same problem. My Evo 4G takes about five minutes to restart.

This started about the same time GB was installed but since I leave my phone on all the time, I am not exactly sure when this started. It also seems to take a long time to shut down also.

Seeing other issues also. Twice now I have had email from Gmail mixed into with mail from another service in the mail app. At times it may not always finding Wi-Fi or 3G/4G until I reboot. Today it would not play to Sync in my car even though it was paired untial after a reboot.

I may end up wiping it and do a fresh start but would prefer an easier solution.

Leaving the phone plugged into the charger all night long, or leaving the phone plugged in while streaming internet radio, does not harm the battery or lower the charge the battery needs. I have done this with 4 Android phones and never had a battery issue.

Of course, anything is possible with a unit that has a bad battery.......

While I'm plagued with the GB rebooting problems, mine does start up faster since the update. (I'm not on fast boot) Guess I'd rather have a slower start ups like my first year, then reboots, camera gps freezes and going from a bubble background to slate whever the phone decides it wants to change it and static type noises when the camera uses the flash. Oh what fun!:'(

Do you have wifi at home? If so, and your Evo is connected to it at night, you should not lose much battery at all, unless you keep 4G on.

I usually lose less than 10% battery when I leave it on at night after fully charging it. It was around 8% with Froyo, and 4% with Gingerbread. Then I charge it in my car on my way to work.

Five minutes seem to be around how much I was waiting for my phone to reboot prior to Gingerbread. With Gingerbread, the start time is around 2 minutes, although I do still have to wait longer for all the apps that I have on the SD card to become available.
