Question State of Android Expanded Storage Using An SD Card?

I'm wondering what the current state of using an SD Card as Expanded Storage in Android devices.

Can someone give me some insight?

I think it's pretty much dead. There are too many potential problems that can occur when formatting an inherently less reliable form of storage like an SD card as a part of the phone's internal storage, which I think is why Google essentially abandoned the feature in more recent versions of Android.

Some phones like Samsung may give the user the option to use the SD card as the default location for app data storage, but the apps themselves won't be able to install directly to the card.
