Hi Folks - Android newbie (just came off a Pre and onto an EVO today) - and I've run into my first question.

As I was googling around trying to find out how to add a wifi network that uses static IPs, I found a few items stating that with Android, you can only have one OR the other - not both.

In other words, I can't have my home network added (static) and then still be able to use public networks because they're dhcp. Is this true??

I saw mention of a few apps in the marketplace to work around this and allow you to access and store both static and dhcp networks on the phone, but wasn't sure if this was just for an older version of Android or if this is still true for 2.1.

Anyone know? Thanks

Yes, you must go to the wireless settings to turn on static IPs, so it's a bit of a hassle switching between the two modes. Check out an app called WiFi Analyzer. It's free, a great tool for WiFi scanning, and it now has a WiFi connection library. I haven't used it myself to connect to networks, but maybe it is what you're looking for. BTW, why is your home network static? Also search the market, maybe there is a static network toggle widget or something.
