Did anyone notice that u can pull down the status bar menu from the lockscreen?

Yeah noticed that the first day I got the phone but it didn't occur to me it was a big deal. So prior to ICS, you had to unlock the phone to do that ?

Yeah.
This is a part of the Android v4.0. Helps me read my notifications straight away, without needing to unlock. But if you have a passcode lock, then you might not be able to do this.

I was thinking that I like being able to change the volume from the lock screen since it allows me to put the phone on silent or vibrate without having to unlock and press a widget toggle or go all the way into settings.

The ability to pull the status bar menu down in the lock screen is a feature of ICS that I really liked. I also liked the active widget feature of the lock screen as well.

If someone picks up your device, and it is locked, they can still see your messages though...

I don't think they'll be able to pull the status bar down if you have a password/passcode lock.
