Anyone know of a widget etc that will keep the Epic on while charging?

It's built into Android. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Stay Awake

Found it. Thanks and while we are at it can you change the appearance of the calendar?

What exactly are you looking to change, just the theme, layout? There's not much you can do with the stock calendar other than change the view from day/week/month. There are plenty of calendar replacements in the Android Market though. My personal preference is Pure Grid Calendar.

No problem! There are tons of Calendar replacements in the Market so if you don't feel like paying for Pure Grid Calendar, there's many more where that came from.
