I just dropped & cracked the **** out of my screen. I have the insurance but am wondering what advice I need when returning the phone. I am going to remove my gmail accounts etc. I have backed up all of my photos and ringtones etc. to my desktop. Do I need to swipe the sd card clean? or anything that I may be missing? Thanks for any help.

Take the SD card out and keep it. If they ask for it, clean it off and bring it in for them, but otherwise hang on to it. Back up any data you can, pics, videos, apps, etc. You shouldn't really worry about somebody else getting your data, just losing something you wanted to save, IMO.

SilverZero,

Thanks for the suggestions. As for apps, if you bought some off of the android market and they are not backed up is it still possible to log in to android market and re-load them?

After you backup stuff on your microSD card, format it, then
Menu -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset.

Yes you can download all your apps again, even the paid ones, you don't have to pay for them a second time as they're tied to your Google account.

If you have the Kindle app installed, delete any books off the phone, or they will be counted against your max number of copies.

If you have a lot of data tied to a certain app, then you might want to back up the app + data as well.

For example, I had to do a full erase on my phone to root it a while ago.
I didn't want my Raging Thunder II data to go away (I unlocked most everything)... so I backed it up as well as other apps.

Titanium Backup does it well. You might be confused using it at first, but tell me if you are... The free version allows you to backup many apps at once. However you have to restore one by one, which is a hassle.
There are other backup solutions. That's just one of them.

That's only if you want to backup the data within the app. Otherwise, the apps you buy are tied to your google account and are available for re-download at the market.
